Is Belton considered to be the southernmost suburb of Kansas City, or the beginning of what rural people call "going to the city"?

I think you could consider Peculiar (south of Belton) a suburb these days.

I'm not from the area. I was just looking at where suburban-style retail begins, with Kohl's, Target, and CVS.

Belton might fit the bill. Harrisonville might technically be the southernmost suburb, but doesn't quite compare to Belton in terms of retail or the feeling of being connected to the rest of the metro.

I would say Harrisonville is the southernmost suburb of Kansas City.

I live in Harrisonville and I go into Belton to shop at Kohl's, Target, Home Depot and Lowe's. We love our small town atmosphere yet being relatively close to KCMO. Best of both worlds.

I'm going to agree with those who said Harrisonville. Such a small town, yet they think they can charge big city/suburb prices for rent, utilities and have the same mentality for property taxes as a somewhat wealthy suburban community. Granted it is in Cass county so taxes are high all over, but Harrisonville's taxes are pretty much on par with Raymore.
