Chartroose Caboose - Home

The best place in KC was Messy's but they are opening up a new location in the West Bottoms, so i doubt they are open yet

I've never really had a Philly in KC I've liked including Chartroose.. or outside the E Coast for that matter. Even Grinder's, owned by a guy from Philly, is too dry and not cheesy enough. But their grinder is good. Will have to try Messy's.

Jersey Mikes has a great sandwich. It's a chain I know but it's delicious.

I'm originally from NJ, about 20 minutes from Philadelphia. Left there in 1985 and I've lived in Texas, Colorado and now KC since then. I've been to a whole lot of places that claim to have real Philly cheesesteaks. None of them do, and half of those places are run by folks who say they're from Philadelphia. There is a new-ish chain of sandwich shops called Lenny's Subs that makes a halfway decent cheesesteak. Go in with low expectations and i think you'll agree it's not a bad sandwich. They use American cheese and cook it in with the meat rather than place it on top. Oh, sure, they'll ask if you want lettuce and tomato and mayo and pickles on it, which sounds crazy. Just tell them no thanks. Oh, and their Italian and cold-cut subs (hoagies) aren't horrible. Anyway, there are two Lenny's Subs locations in Overland Park.
