Anyone going to see some hockey at Sprint Center in October? On October 6 you've got the New York Rangers vs. Colorado Avalanche NHL pre-season game, which might not happen because of labor negotiations. Then the games I want to go see are on October 12-13, the NCAA Ice Breaker Tournament, featuring University of Maine, University of Nebraska-Omaha, Army and Notre Dame.

I am pretty sure I am going to be going to the NCAA Icebreaker tournament. I have a friend from Maine and he is a U of Maine Season Ticket holder and I have seen a game up the Maine campus so I will be cheering for them

Attendance doesnt look great for this college hockey tournament. Only about 3000 tickets sold for both days, hope they get a huge walkup. Looks like our chances for hosting a Frozen Four is slim to none. The first year of the CBE college tourney didn't sell great in its first year so maybe they will have a chance with another college hockey tournament next year

The problem is that our locals schools do not have hockey or at least sanctioned hockey teams so there isnt any interest. If MU, KU, and KSU had teams competing on the Division I level, this thing would have sold several thousand more tickets.

I think if you had a bigger powerhouse like Minnesota or even a team from Colorado in this you would have a lot more fans, nobody from Maine or Norte Dame is going to travel to this game even though they are two decent teams

Has the city ever attempted to get a pro hockey team?

Yes. They built the Sprint Center and tried to get the Penguins to come here.

KC had an NHL team briefly in the 70s.

CHL is professional hockey, too, albeit minor, and the Mavericks are part of that.
