Good station. I've been streaming it on my other computer since Clear Channel killed Project 9-6-1 in Atlanta last week with no warning, in favor of a fourth Top 40 station. (Brilliant move, morons!)

I miss my old rock station, but at least The Rock plays "BEER!!!" on Friday afternoons like Project did. I also have to say that The Rock seems to play more new songs than Project did, so that's cool. I've heard a couple of brand-new songs on there that Project didn't yet have, plus several songs from the last couple of years that Project dropped off their playlist altogether. Too bad The Rock doesn't have the Side Show Countdown with Nikki Sixx, though. I'll have to find a station that has it and stream it on the weekends.

Anyway, keep rocking in the heartland! BEER IS GOOD!!! (And stuff!)

It's hard to believe this is the 20th year for 98.9 the Rock. They dropped a soft rock format (98.9 the River) for the current hard rock format on April 2, 1992.

I use to listen to it but got bored. They play the same songs over and over again and I cant stand any of their radio personalities especially Johnny Dare.

I can't stand Johnny Dare and never understood why it was so popular. His format is interview a porn star, talk about drugs or alcohol, repeat

Is J Dare still there? That station is okay if you want some 80's metal once in a while, but I always found the DJ's there to be quite annoying. I liked 96.5 the buzz in KC, if it's still there. Now my favorite station is DC101. Great station.

Yes, he has been on the radio for 20 years here now.

96.5 is still on. That's what I listen too.

There's definitely a large audience that appreciates his style. Although it's easy to not be personally familiar with those people if you have no reason to be, or if you're indifferent.

Especially in terms of newer music, I think 96.5's music is a step up, but the personalities (cheap humor), while different, really aren't.

Wasn't Johny Dare from that old AM metal station ZRock? 98.9 came on the air almost as soon as
ZRock went off the air. Glad to hear it's still around. I wish we had stations like that out here, it's
all rap, mariachi, more rap & classic rock. Did I mention rap?

Is KY102 still around?

Z-Rock was a satellite fed network; I don't know if Dare had any involvement with it.

KY-102 is long gone. The station flipped formats in 1997, returned soon thereafter on 99.7 as a classic rock station, then died again in 2008.
