I'm looking at rentals in Lenexa and some refer to a "city center." I'm trying to see on a map of KC including Lenexa where a city center might be. Does Lenexa have older housing stock, or is it primarily newer houses and buildings? Thanks in advance.

Lenexa has a tiny original downtown area with a handful of old comercial buildings and churches surrounded by a small cluster of old housing stock.

However, 'City Center' refers to a new-urbanism project that hasn't really gotten off the ground. It's at 435 (Renner) and 87th St. Search Google for 'Lenexa City Center' and you should be able to find some info. The project was/is envisioned to be a new, grand City Center for Lenexa.

So far the "Lenexa City Center" development is two mostly vacant buildings with some apartment complexes around it and a massive road infrastructure. It was ill-timed, started in 2007 right when everything crashed.

I wouldn't consider the "City Center" to be an attraction or draw at all, but it's still a nice area to live. Right next to Shawnee Mission Park, and easy highway access to just about anywhere.

Lenexa could have a really neat downtown, similar to Lee's Summit. Too bad that track through downtown doesn't carry commuter trains because that would be a perfect place for a nice mixed use walkalbe district built around a train station.
