XenoKC - I sincerely appreciate your suggestion, so I took it. I don't know if this link will work, but it's where I posted my idea: Streetcar Phase 2 - Broadway/Nichols Alignment through Midtown | Midtown Plaza by MindMixer

One other thought: It should be made clear in the course of debates whether the main goal is 1) to spur development along the route, or 2) to achieve maximum ridership, or what mix of the two goals is desired. If it's #1, then Main is ideal. If it's #2, then Broadway/Nichols. But I'd hate for it to run down Main, and have people complain that ridership is low.

Thirdly, if the goal is the quickest possible run then Main is also ideal, but I don't expect that to be the first priority.
If the streetcar truly spurs development and attracts people, the ridership would rise with time with option #1. I think you're right and Broadway is the better option, but don't want to face it because I'm having a hard time shaking the thought of Main St reaping the development benefits.

Official site is now up. Q2 2015 seems a little aggressive considering they have to replace bridge over S Loop but is good to see them pushing hard to meet it.

Answered my own question. So the street car is completely independent of the KCATA. Very interesting. So this will receive zero operating funds from local transit taxes, federal transit funding etc? Sounds interesting and was probably the best way to get it going, but I would think at some point, they would want this to be a part of the ATA once they start talking about expanding it. It would be nice if metro KC had one transit entity on both sides of the state line and into the suburbs. Independence, KCK and JoCo are not part of the ATA now either. Don’t get that, but with the streetcar, it seems to be speeding up getting something implemented. Hopefully they get longer, high capacity vehicles. If they want to run these all the way to the plaza and beyond, they will need the larger vehicles in the long run.

Anyway, I guess MAX stays for now. They really need to move that over to Grand and straighten it out through downtown. Straighten out that route, and put articulated buses on it and run them every 5 minutes during rush and ten other times. It would be BETTER than light rail for the core of the city.
