My family lives in Roeland Park and we are thinking about finishing our basement. It is dry and we have only had occasional problems with water. We want a basic refinish, we plan to turn the space into a rec room. Any suggestions for a contractor? Does anyone have ideas about the cost? We have been burned by contractors before and I am wary. Any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated.

I don't have a suggestion on a contractor (we did ours ourselves), but just wanted to say that we lived in our house for about 5 years before we finished the basement and it was always dry. Then we finished the basement and not long after all our carpeting got not just wet but SOAKED. We didn't have a sump pump because we had never needed one before we finished the basement. We had to replace all the flooring and we put in a sump pump, and it has kept it dry ever since. So I would say even if your basement is dry, go ahead and put in a sump pump.
