Jazz, Classical and even Jam Band Rock stations are rare because the general public doesn't listen for the musical instruments aspect of music, they listen for the catchy words/refrains/choruses in the songs.

KPR out of Lawrence has hours of jazz every single night starting at 9 and going till midnight on their Jazz in the Night and Marian McPartland's Piano Jazz programming. Every Saturday is David Basse's The Jazz Scene for a good three hours. Jazz with Bob Parlocha plays all through the night on the station, also. It's hard to turn on that particular NPR station and NOT hear jazz.
