I tried to read the KC Star this morning online and now you have to sign up and pay a monthly fee to read the articles. So much for keeping up on the news in KC

I didn't follow the link, but it said something like options starting from 99 cents.

I think all McClatchy papers are only allowing so many articles read per month for free. If you clear cookies in browser, it will reset. Or use another browser.

The mobile version on desktop is also good to get past all the clutter...

The Topeka Capital-Journal also instituted an online subscription service. Somehow, it's more expensive than the KC Star.

Sadly, one could argue it's a better paper.

McClatchy destroyed what was once a very good paper. They only sped up the process of running people away from print.

At least their website seems to be turning off the comments sections of most articles now.

The printed Star is getting to be horrible, and I've been reading/subscribing all my adult life. You can read the Monday and Tuesday editions in five minutes. Even Sunday is pretty slim.

In today's Sports section, there's a big headline saying "Lancers on way to State" referring to the Shawnee Mission East basketball team (my alma mater, which is why I was paying attention to begin with), and a photo caption also referring to SME playing tonight in the state finals. Only problem is, East lost their semi-final game last night.

And the Dear Abby column showed a picture of Miss Manners.

Somebody was asleep last night.
