NE Kansas City, MO ???
Hello out there,
Does anyone know about the NE area of KC MO? My husband and I are looking online at that area to buy a home. We have no children so schools aren't an issue, but we do want a safe, friendly neighborhood. We are in the 65K-70K price range.
Thanks

I would suggest that the town of North Kansas City would probably be a better choice than the NE area of KC, MO. That area is not the safest, and real estate prices are usually that cheap for a good reason.

Northeast KC is a unique area for sure, just not the best for safety as mentioned.
You might have a hard time finding anything in your price range that's considered safe. North Kansas City is great, but finding anything for less than 90k would be difficult.
There is an area directly north of NKC that's called Crestview (I think), it's bordered on the west by North Oak Trafficway and the north by I-29. There were lots of affordable houses in that area when we were looking a couple of years ago. They were built in the late 40's/early 50's when the GI's were coming home from WW2. It's actually a neat place that would be safe.
You also might try looking into Raytown or western Independence. They're not too bad in and of themselves, but some find that they're too close to the rough parts of KC for comfort.
Who knows? Since the housing market is slow, there might be good deals out there to be had.

It's a buyers market in Raytown. We've had a house in our neighborhood for sale for 2 years and at this point the owner would take anything he can get for it just to get rid of a 2nd house payment.

To be more specific, we are looking around Gladstone and Claycomo area. I also was wondering about Belton.

I would say that Gladstone is probably a little better than Claycomo. Gladstone was one of the first suburbs in the "northland." Prices in Gladstone would probably be a little higher overall compared with Claycomo.
Belton is located along 71 highway in northwestern Cass County. Belton is MUCH further south compared with Gladstone or Claycomo. However, commuting to KC, MO from Belton is not that bad. Other people commute to work in JoCO and live in Belton. It is growing quite a bit and I think the prices are fairly affordable there. It is also a more diverse than most towns in Cass County.
It is a buyer's market so I am sure there is a good range of properties available.

oohhhh...okay. Gladstone's great. Claycomo is mostly just a Ford plant. It might be possible to find a cheap fixer-upper close to the Liberty square, also.
I'd avoid Belton.
When people talk about northeast kc, a lot of times they're talking about an area south of the river, generally north of the Truman Road corridor. It's not northeast on the map anymore, the name just stuck.

Can anyone suggest what part of Kansas City would be fun, artsy, but nice? Me and my significant other and my Mom are all moving. Close enough to shopping, art, etc. $200-250K range for a house but has to be around 2000 sq. ft. for all of us to live in the same house.
Thanks so much.

If you can find a home in the suburban NE area of KC for that price. Let me know .
I guess you might find something in Claycomo or Pleasant Valley, but it will be a shack. Most of KCMO in this area is new construction and a lot of it gets pretty expensive like in the Shoal Creek valley.

I would try South Plaza or Maybe West Plaza or Brookside.
If you are a bit more urban minded, there are also some areas north of the plaza that you might like.
