Default Thoughts on the Rockhill Ridge area

Hi. My partner and I will be relocating to KC in January, and we're looking at areas to purchase a home. We're committed urban dwellers, so the 'burbs are out, though we'd like to live in a single home with a yard. Exploring the city the other weekend, we really fell in love with the Rockhill Ridge area--west of Rockhill road, east of Brookside Blvd, and north of 59th Street. We liked the liberal, diverse "feel" of the neighborhood. The homes seem very affordable compared with nearby Brookside, but I've also noticed that many sellers in the area have dramatically dropped their asking prices. What's the concensus on the area? Are the reduced asking prices symptomatic of Kansas City in general, or is there something about this area that I'm unaware of (we would like to see a return on our investment afterall).

KC to NC is on a distinguished road
We used to live near 55th & Brookside Blvd right by the Crestwood shops and loved the area! We sold our house the end of this spring after four months on the market and I have several friends still in KC that have told me that the housing market sales slump hit KC hard so if you find a house you love, make a crazy offer. One friend took her house of the market and it took another 9 months to sell hers. We had to move out of state for a job but were prepared to move to the burbs since we started having children and I'm a public school advocate and KCMO schools need help. I would definitely live back in the area we lived if we didn't have kids. Very beautiful, love the Brookside trail, coffee shops, etc and of course the Plaza all nearby. You can't go wrong unless you plan to sell again right away. Good luck!
