Yea, downtown is not going to happen. But is there anything the city or residents can do to get that plan improved? It needs a lot more than better landscaping per the article above.

With the amount of city and state tax money involved in this project, there should be some pressure by the city and state for this project to have at least some mixed use to it and if they really want to see it affect the surrounding area in a positive way, it absolutely has to have some sort of residential and retail components.

You have the opportunity to completely re-invent and re brand SKC with one project. This is not going to do that. And since they are giving Cerner back probably every time the project will generate including the Etax revenue, what's the point? May as well let this go to some greenfied and let it redevelopment organically with warehouses or something.

It sounds like in the article many complained about that design so hopefully they do improve it.

If people in KC are so against walking from their cars to their plan at KCI, I'd hate to hear the complains walking from the edges of that parking lot into work

The design is getting ripped all over the place.

So it sounds like Cerner may be attempting to spread the buildings out and add more green space. So maybe it will look more like Corporate Woods or some other College Blvd office park? Okay, aesthetically, that may be better than a cluster of buildings surrounded by a parking lot the size of the truman sports complex. But does it really change any of the urban planning issues that this project is failing at so badly? I don't see how. But maybe it will somehow lead to more mixed use aspects in the future, I don't know. It will be interesting to see an updated site plan.

Not a good looking set of buildings. They can do a lot better. Hopefully they do. By the way, when did young people become such ******* about driving anywhere? I hear complaints from younger folks quite a bit about having to be in their cars for more than a half hour every day.

Because being in your car by yourself and especially being in your car by yourself going to and from work is a pretty crappy use of your limited time here on earth. You can't socialize with other people while driving alone in your car and it costs money as well. Paying money to spend time in isolation driving through traffic is IMO not a good use of my money. If we can design our city's layout toward using our cars less and less over time, then to me that is a good thing overall.

Yes, it's a total waste of your time and money. It can also be stressful and it's not healthy to just be sitting for so long. In my dream world, I could walk to work Some people view cars as freedom. I view cars as prisons!

Most suburban boomers do not understand 'pedestrian scale living', more and more of their children do.

I get that from younger people. They don't like spending the money on a car. I had several friends like that when I was younger and living in Orlando. Several didn't own a car and it did suck to have to be the driver if we wanted to leave the campus of UCF. To me though, being able to spend that 15-20 minutes in my car by myself is a relief from the people at work and the people where I am going.
