Default Lee's Summit Mo vs Overland Park Ks

I watched a report on the news that said that Lee's Summit Mo rates across the nation as 19th while Overland Park Ks comes in at 34th.

19th for what? Crime? Cost of living? Good education? Population growth?

Crime. I guess i messed that one up. Lee's Summit is better located in regards to getting anywhere by highway or local streets. A growing community. You won't regret moving to Lee's Summit.

Least Crime... I got curious and found a copy of the article that they must have been quoting -- pretty impressive:

Both are the "higher class" from what I've heard from residence of the Metro KC area.

Lee's Summit is exploding.

There are affordable homes in Lee's Summit, as well as quite expensive ones. Some for everyone. Schools are good as well.

Default Lee's Summit, Mo

L.S. is a rapidly growing city that is going thru a restoration and beautification program. This makes it a little difficult to navigate some areas of the city from time to time but they are doing a great job of creating a liveable city that functions well and is not your usual hard, cold city atmosphere. If you like the feel of a smaller home town for your downtown and the convenience of upscale areas of business you will like L.S.

The housing runs from Section 8 (but well kept) to multimillion dollar homes. I lived in L.S for many years and will be returning there soon. The people are friendly, schools provide classes from handicapped/learning disabled to gifted. There is also Longview Community College which is part of the Metro C.C.

I am a county girl and would always prefer the country to any city. However, L.S. is my choice if I am going to live in a city.

Default I've lived in both places...

I grew up in Missouri, very near Lee's Summit, and have many family members that live in there now. It's a nice place. It's a little more sprawled out than I like, and yes you get to everything via hwy, but if you weren't driving 60mph you'd really realize how far things really are from each other.

As far as choosing between that and Overland Park? I choose OP. I've been living here for a few years now, and I think it has far better access to downtown KC, many of the neighborhoods are older and have nice big trees... and the little downtown sections of OP, Merriam, Old Shawnee Town, and Mission are CUTE and walkable... some strip malls, but really more of an old town square feeling.

The roads are better in KS. The government systems for registering to vote, getting your driver's license and renewing your tags is MUCH, MUCH easier. I couldn't believe how easy it was after growing up in MO. You actually get your car inspected at the DMV, and can register to vote while renewing/getting your driver's license! It really consolidates the steps. In MO you have to do everything at different places. Also, when you buy a car in KS, you can roll the taxes into the loan. It's really NICE not having to come up with 1200-2000 bucks when your 30 days tags expire... Trust me.

I'm moving to Roeland Park (between OP and the Plaza) in a month, and it couldn't be a better location for me. I'll be minutes from the Plaza, and 15 minutes from KC. Perfect!

So that's my 2-cents, having lived in both places.

good luck!

(hey, but I'll always be a Missouri girl at heart! Go Roos!
