We are a band that needs some promo pictures (soon). Since it is so cold we would like to find some unique indoor architectural photo opportunities or, at the least some photogenic locations in the Kansas City area. We live in Shawnee so would be interested to know if there any such locations on the KS side as well. Suggestions?

Union Station and the various casinos are the only ones that come to mind for fancy indoor "scenery". Bass Pro if you like the outdoors while indoors :S

There aren't many decorative indoor architecture that I'm aware of. The Nelson or the KC ballet or Kauffman if you like the arts (assuming a band would but who knows?), I like some of the larger Malls around town, but not very photogenic unless you wanted crowds of people/ or lack of.

You could go up one of the taller buildings and take photos out the window of KC's skyline while being indoors

I'd assume some of the local bars would be scenic, and for a smallish band, both parties could use the publicity?

I can't think of anything terribly unique, especially on the Kansas side. We have a place called Mission Theatre (Johnson Dr., east of Lamar) that hosts a lot of weddings. I'm sure it would have enough room for your band, but I don't know what it looks like on the inside in a non-wedding setting.

Personally, I would just find a building in the West Bottoms or Crossroads. When American Idol came to town, they shot the auditions inside the Firestone Building.

I would agree with Union Station, or many of the other areas within the Crown Center complex. The Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts would also have some awesome indoor views, as well as the Bloch building at the Nelson Atkins. I would hesitate about using Bass Pro, as it is a chain retailer and you could get the same views in any city, I mean why not just take some shots inside a Macy's or Kohl's...On the Kansas side, you could probably get some nice shots in some of the local churches or in the OP convention center depending on what you are looking for.

KC has a lot of lovely churches; I'm surprised they don't get more mention. The Cathedral of Immaculate Conception on 12th is a great location, as is Trinity Baptist, also downtown. Country Club Church on Ward Pkwy is lovely.

I'm stumped for locations in KS. It's mostly recently built suburbia, so not much of note there.
