Heck, in 5 years, if inflation ticks away at 3% that $13 will only be worth about $11.20 in real terms. $11.20 seems like a much more reasonable proposition than the $15 mentioned by the OP. $10 would even seem more reasonable than $7.65 to me, but since there is no empirical data on this kind of stuff it is very difficult to say. Maybe an expansion of the earned income tax credit is a better way to help out low-wage people struggling to make ends meet.

Seriously? This is the problem with people, you can't look at anything beyond what's in front of your face. It's called MAJOR layoffs and no job creation. Aside from whats been said raising the minimum wage to $15 devalues every job that's already making less than that, which is a LOT! Raising the minimum wage that high will do major damage to the job market, much more than the few it will help. Minimum wage should be no higher than $10.00/hr. People want to make good money and not have to develop any skills to do so.

People can cry all they want about needing more money because current day life in this country is unaffordable, you want to see unaffordable? Let minimum wage hit $15 and watch what happens!

There's no getting around this, the people who are pushing for higher wages for fast food are going to end up getting hurt one way or another.
Why would anyone want to leave for fast food? If you are working in a field other than fast food pay, instead of complaining about it, there is something called a union. Either unionize so you can get a fair pay based on your skill or don't complain.

I respect the fast food workers for protesting instead of being a sourpuss unlike someone who doesn't protest the right to a higher pay. Force the company to negotiate with the worker. That's why unions exist.

Oh for goodness' sake. Nobody working in fast food (or any industry, really) and just up and decide to unionize. If you live in a "right to work" state, forget about it. And even if you don't, forget about it. Those kinds of negotiations are only made by millionaires.

Minimum wage hikes are a bad solution to an over-all working wage decline. This isn't the 80's anymore, things cost more and wages aren't keeping up. It's important to address that problem. Why isn't the free market setting the scale to a living wage?

Based on Bernie's win in the Kansas democratic caucus, I think you should re-evaluate what you perceive as being "liberal" and "extreme."

It appears that it is another election cycle where voters are picking candidates that are not establishment politicians on both sides of the aisle. We will see how this transpires...

Quite the opposite. Bernie won Kansas because Kansans are, and always have been, extremists. Is in the DNA of the state. Nothing about Kansas is moderate, and nothing every has been. It is a radical place, from it's geography, to it's climate, to it's people, to it's politics.

The Kansas City forum....the place to go for stand up comedy and little else.

Of course, we're used to a constant flow of (radical) commentary on the people and politics of Kansas. But now the geography is radical?

This just gets better and better.
