Mid-Continent Public Library which serves the three-county area of Jackson, Platte, and Clay counties in Missouri.

What local issue just needs to get solved, already?

If you could engage your neighbors in a conversation on any topic, what would it be? We need your help to determine what local issues you and your neighbors could discuss as the Mid-Continent Public Library (MCPL) continues its Local Issues Project. We recently concluded conversations about a living wage and will cover neighborhood revitalization later this summer. What other local issues should we consider?
The deadline to submit your ideas for this round is June 12.

The Local Issue Project Explained
At times throughout 2015, we will solicit issues from people all over the MCPL three-county area. MCPL will select some issues for public forums (where people work in small groups to talk about how to deal with the issue) and some issues for panel discussions (where people learn more about the issue from experts).
We are looking for critical issues that haven't been solved because people can't agree about what should be done. We are also interested in issues that are new, where you would like more information to help you make up your mind. The issues can be very specific to your city, or they can be common to other communities.
Here are a few examples:
  • My kid is afraid to go to school. How do we address bullying at the local high school?
  • My neighborhood is struggling, but we have a hard time getting our problems addressed. What role should neighborhoods play in local government?
  • In Northern Booktropolis (we made that up), we can't decide whether to seek more development or to try to keep our farmland. What solution would do the most good for the most people?
This survey asks a few questions to help get a clear sense of what matters to you. We ask for your name and contact information so we can get in touch if we have more questions. We won't publish your name, and if you don't want to include it, that's fine. Please complete one survey for each issue you want to suggest.
