Info on Smithville, please.
Hello,
We are relocating for a job. Just read a post about great info on Platte City. Can someone offer me information on Smithville? How are the schools, proximity to parks and also, how easy to get to shopping and the airport? Thanks for any help!

If you want a good suburban town that is convenient to most areas of the KC metro I would look at Liberty. It is in south-central Clay County MO right near I-35. Housing prices in Liberty are affordable, and it is still a buyers market.

There are not many new homes in Libety and you would have to cross I-35 wich is a traffic nightmare. I would go with KC North. The area between Liberty and Tiffany Springs along Highway 152. Tons of new homes in all price brackets dot the area from Shoal Creek to KCI.
Remember, it's OK to live in KCMO city limits. It's a suburb up north. Good schools too. Park Hill, Liberty and North KC all serve the fast growing KC North area.
If you want a small town, Platte City or Smithville are the best choices. But depending on where you work or where you will want to shop, thost can be a bit far out and rural school districts don't always offer as much as suburban ones do.
Gas isn't cheap ya know!

Smithville is good for what it offers, but has a lot of cookie cutter houses. I think Platte City offers a slightly better overall location to many areas of the metro with the close I-435 interstate access. Another town that you could look at is Gladstone. This is a much more established suburb that is not too far from KCI Airport, Downtown, and the Plaza.

Smithville, MO
My fiancee and I just moved to Smithville in April, 07. And if you like a rural, small town with a great lake scenery, you will really like it here! We live about 0.5 mi. from the lake and usually take the long way home just to drive over the dam and watch the snow geese (literally thousands on any given day this time of year). KC is very easy to get to, just about 10-15 minutes south on hwy 169, which is the highway that runs through Smithville. We are kind of in a central area, according to the Liberty, Platte City, Kansas City, and St. Joseph areas. Down side is that there's only one grocery store in town, and they seem to keep tabs on how often you visit the store for some odd reason. And don't speed! I havn't gotten a ticket, but the cops are pretty sneaky around here and almost always have someone pulled over.
Good luck with the move!
