I think that this is going to be a great place to call home and raise our son. I think I can even get myself to like the Chiefs (a little bit). :-)

My family and I live in Waldo, we love it. It's a great neighborhood that's less pricey than Brookside, with its own commercial core with restaurants, bars, stores, a great gym, and very few chains. My wife is a counselor at an inner city high school, and the comment that any public school will have a federal mandate to fund special ed is absolutely correct; options are more limited at many charter and private schools. The kids in KC's public schools really NEED educators who care about them, so I applaud your goal. It's a difficult job, especially in a district that's as dysfunctional as KCPS, but I can't imagine anything more important.

The only potential issue with Waldo would be that if you want to work at the high school level, all of KC's public high schools would require a 20-30 minute commute. That's no big deal for most people, but it's worth mentioning. Otherwise, welcome. This is a great town.
