This will probably effect the KC market more than any other market. It will be interesting to see how this shakes out. Both of these companies were two of the biggest corporate welfare recipients in the retail world. Now it's just one giant corporate welfare mess. Bass Pro (or Cabella's) wouldn't last a year if most of their stores were not built mostly with tax money and it looks like many in the headquarters of both companies may lose their jobs with this merger.

I can't imagine the Lee's Summit Cabella's opening now, unless they plan to keep both brands.

I don't know what the smallest Bass Pro stores are like size wise, but I have a feeling like the Lee's Summit Store and the Wichita store will receive the ax. The Wichita store has absolutely no room to expand unless they buy out and demolish the new Hobby Lobby that just went up next to it, and the Lee's Summit is a couple thousand square foot smaller. There's also the abysmally dingy and tiny store in Kearney, NE that is a pain to get to and it's only open because it's attached to offices for the company. Bass Pro is keeping the Lincoln data center open, but it sounds like the corporate offices in Kearney, North Platte, Grand Island, and most of the jobs at corporate headquarters in Sydney are getting the ax. If they shrink the KC presence it would almost have to end with KCK and Independence because they're the best located stores out of the three built and one under construction. Nothing has ever developed around the Olathe Bass Pro on that side of the interstate except a second location for The Furniture Mall of Kansas, which is just a larger relocated location from Lawrence.

Some articles say that Bass Pro is keeping both brands and will operate Cabela's as a subsidy.
