Just something I ran across. Shows why KC is generally ignored in Missouri and why Kansas babies Johnson County and KCMO is sort of caught in no man's land getting shafted by both states. Kansas uses the KS side of the KC area to prop up the entire state while MO just doesn't really care about the MO side of the metro. The bigger part of KC in the state that doesn't care about it. The smaller part of KC is in the state that will do what ever it takes to grow that KS side of the metro regardless of how it may negatively impact the MO side because the KS side of the metro is so vital to the entire state of Kansas.

KC is probably the best scenario in the country where a city-state would be beneficial.

Kansas City CSA (72 billion) = 25% of Missouri
St Louis CSA (129 billion) = 45% of Missouri

Kansas City CSA (62 billion) = 43% of Kansas
Wichita CSA (30 billion) = 20% of Kansas

IHS does some pretty nice reports. What I find interesting here is that Dallas and Houston (and DC) are all projected to overtake Chicago in GDP in the next however many years.

Kansas City, Cincinnati, and Cleveland all just kind of hum drum, forever middling.
