The development will be a 33,282-square-foot retail location with firearms training facility and an indoor shooting range.

This is adding to the burgeoning Village East development on the East side of 435 with the new headquarters of Dairy Farmers of America, a bunch of new car dealerships, the National U.S. Soccer Training Center and at least 3 more hotels in development phases on that end.

As well Village South moved forward in Edwardsville at the I-70 and the 110th interchange which will be a $60 Million Dollar development which will have two hotels, Holiday Inn and La Quinta Inn (185 total rooms) and a 12,000 square-foot conference center.

With all of these developments it seems that the I435 and I70 area will have a very, very dense insane amount of hotel rooms and that's not even counting the tower that Hollywood Casino is supposed to build for their hotel.

I am assuming with the merger of Bass Pro and Cabelas that the Cabelas store out there will be one of the ones remaining open, correct?

So I take it that they won't be expanding Schiltterbahn. Their master plan originally took up most of the land that is now being developed as other things.

I saw the Frontier Justice in Lee's Summit (It's along I-470 I think) last time I was in KC. There was another place similar to it in Blue Springs I think. When did KC become so redneck?

Good for KCK, but come on. Car dealerships, little motels etc does not get me excited. It still feels like are driving to Topeka when you go out there.

At least the new KCK amazon distribution facility is actually an infill development for once.

Why can't some of this happen on the Indian Springs Mall site?

Is downtown KCK ever going to get any attention?

Is the huge EPA building still vacant??? Would have been a great place for Cerner to move to rather than building new buildings (built with tax money) way out west.

I don't know why they would close it. The Cabelas and two other Bass Pros are all like 20+ miles from each other.

The one under construction in Lee's Summit is probably toast though. I would image somebody like Gander Mountain will take that spot.

I really don't know why everyone complains about the location of Village West and Village East. It's not like they're far flung from the edge of town where Kmart/ACE/Big Lots/Price Chopper/Community College are. The location assured them Shoppers from Topeka and Lawrence, which both suffer from a severe lack of diversity in retail options either by choice, or in Topekas case high crime and a bad job market.

I mean the premier shopping options of Topeka are Eddie Bauer, Dillard's, and Gap Outlet. Lawrence has weavers, but I've heard stuffy old ladies walking down Mass refer to Weaver's as overpriced clothing for older women and the men's department is just overpriced golf attire one could buy at the Dicks in the old Sears on Iowa for cheaper. Jones and Dillard's tried to enter Lawrence in the 80's through a proposed mall that was to be constructed by the same developer that built the malls in Manhattan in Salina, but Lawrence smartly decided to focus on keeping Mass Street relevant. The same company was supposed to build a huge mega mall in the middle of nowhere in Overland Park according to the articles in the Lawrence paper, but I have no idea whatever came of that plan. The Salina mall is a design disaster that can be found in any midsized community around the country while the Manhattan Mall is actually very interesting in it's architecture and you won't find another mall of its open and airy design. neither mall is been renovated since they were built though and they're both looking worse for wear. I mean Metcalf South saw a renovation more recently than those two properties.

The hotels also allow people to stay closer to Lawrence, a town that is lacking on high-quality hotels for the most part, without the hassle of having to get off the turnpike or stay in Topeka where people get murdered ar the Motel 6 in front of Home Depot on North Wannamaker in the "good" part of town. I've staying in several of the hotels near the Hallmark plant in Lawrence and their full of mold and ripped up carpet and other horrible things that are representative of the chains presence elsewhere in the country. It's sad that one can find hotels in Pittsburg and Garden City, which is kind of embarrassing for a town right off of I-70 that is also home to a large university.

Frontier Justice should be in every city. A place like this thrives in today's "climate" America is Frontier Justice!

I hate to be some kind of an elitist, but it sounds pretty hickish. I have nothing against firearms, but I'm too cynical to shop at a store that wraps themselves in the flag and is a champion for 'traditional' values of America. Whatever that means....

Good to hear about development for Wyandotte County, albeit it's all greenfield development far from the urban core of KCK. As someone that has spent quite a bit of time meeting the people and local community leaders in the urban core, I hope more investment is brought to their doorsteps.

The drive out there is just kind of depressing. It feels like you are leaving the metro area and it becomes sort of rural and sparely developed for the last part of the trip. Then once you are there, it's just an island of chains restaurants and big box stores, many of which seem to cater to a more rural or "country" demographic and you can tell by the people that are out there. It's also probably the most "Kansas" part of metro KC. If that makes sense. It does draw from Topeka, Lawrence etc. It's flat and always windy as hell out there too. It's just not my cup of tea. I know lots of people like the area though.

I do like NFM though. Wish they had stores like that in the DC area.

Yeah but the view of downtown on your return is pretty cool...it makes 1KCP look like a 50 story tower
