I have Celiac Disease, which means I have to be gluten free. It is absolutely not a choice. If I cheat, my body attacks itself. I love to eat out, though. Which is a challenge because as much as some restaurants try, cross contamination occurs. Does anyone hear have the same issues, and can pass along any good experiences of GF places where they have NOT been on the receiving end of cross contamination? Places where they take the extra steps needed to prevent cross-contamination? I'm looking for actual experiences, not just places that have GF menus. I know it's a long shot, but any thoughts are appreciated.

I also have celiac disease. What part of the metro area are you in, so I don't recommend places too far afield?

I have had good luck at Aixois and Cafe Europa in Crestwood, Ophelia's in Independence (though once a waiter accidentally brought me "real" cake instead of the flourless one), Jack's Stack BBQ, BRGR Kitchen & Bar, The Westside Local, FuD, and Bo Lings. Waldo Pizza is touted as gluten free, but I got a stomach ache both times I ate there. Same with Pie Five and Minsky's. The only pizza that hasn't made me sick is from Spin Neapolitan Pizzeria. The one on Main has a dedicated oven.

Will think about it and suggest more later.

I love Cafe Gratitude. It's 100% vegan so if you're looking to eat animals, this is not the place for you. They cannot guarantee cross contamination but they seem to work very hard to prevent it, and the vast majority of their menu items are gluten free anyway. I have a pretty severe avocado allergy, which is a often an ingredient in vegan dishes, but I've never had issues eating there. I tell them about the allergy and they appear to be very vigilant in making sure there is no cross-contamination.

I'm not gluten intolerant, and don't order gluten free, but same thing happened to me the last two times I ate there. The second time was really bad, with pain to the point that I was wondering if I needed to go to the ER, and I never go to the ER. My husband ate it too, both times, and he was fine. Both times I was sick. Could have been something else, I guess, but the only times it happened was when I had eaten Waldo pizza. My husband has continued to eat it and has been fine. I haven't eaten it again.

Wow, that's strange. I wonder if there's something else going on besides gluten cross-contamination for me, as well. I know other people with celiac disease who eat there with no problem. I'm not going back, though!
