I am coming to kansas city kansas and need a cheap but safe place to stay around the legends area.

I wouldn't recommend American Inn or Gables. Both pretty ghetto. Any of the places actually AT the Legends would be better than either of those. At the Legends: Candlewood Suites, Residence Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Country Inn and Suites, Great Wolfe Lodge, Best Western Premier KC Speedway Inn, Hampton Inn Kansas City - Village West and Chateau Avalon. Those are all right in the Legends area. American Inn and Gables are not at the Legends.

Comparing Holiday Inn Expresses, it appears the location at the Legends is about $23 a night more expensive (I just picked a random date) than the one at Bonner Springs, which is not very far. There is also a Super 8 in Bonner that's even cheaper than that.

I can't overly recommend either, but the American Motel (Inn) doesn't have horrid reviews throughout if that's the only option you have. I've stayed at four different hotels at Legends and they were all very nice, and nicer than most of the hotels I've stayed at in JoCo (The LaQuinta near Oak Park Mall and the Comfort Inn off 435 and Metcalf are both really ghetto) so I feel safe recommending anything at Legends.
