Hello everyone.

So, tomorrow a friend and I are leaving town at 6:00 A.M. to head east and see the various Sunflower fields in eastern Kansas, but that isn't going to take all day and both of us need to do some shopping at Oak Park Mall (It's only mall in the metro that has all of the stores we need in one places as a few of them have closed their Plaza, Zona Rosa, and Town Center Plaza locations). I don't want to spend the entire day at Oak Park Mall, and my friend has never been to any part of KC, so I'm looking for some suggestions on what I can do on a budget of "free" to show them around the city. I already plan on taking them down to The Country Club Plaza and walking around there for a bit, but I need other ideas... Is there somewhere that I could take my friend to see a good view of the downtown skyline? My usual go-to activities of "Plaza Lights and Crown Center Skating" aren't available for a few more months, and I'm really not feeling stopping in Lawrence this trip.

Observation deck at Liberty memorial, best view of downtown. Case Park at 8th and Jefferson downtown, great view of the river, downtown airport, etc. Drive down Ward Parkway or around Mission Hills and gawk at the big houses.

The problem with that is that our budget beyond turnpike, gas, mall, and two meals is $0.00 (we're heading to London in the near future). I love the Liberty Memorial, but Case Park will work better!

The view from the base of the memorial is great, and free! No need to pay to go up the memorial.

This.

I can't go to KC and not swing by and just gawk at the skyline from the base of the memorial for a few minutes. Kaw Point in KCK is a neat view too (can only see a few buildings though, so skyline seem small from there).

Thanks for clarification. View from the base was what I was thinking of.
