You might want to check out the preschool at Central United Methodist Church on Oak Street near the UMKC campus. They don't have a 9-5 daycare program, but they have an excellent early-childhood center that runs from 9am to 2-3pm (I'm not sure of the times).
My boyfriend's mother works there, caring for the itty-bitty babies (I believe the program goes from 8 months to 5 years of age), and I've met some of the teachers. They are all very nice and responsible people who take their jobs very seriously. The program has received accreditation for 3 years in a row, if I'm not mistaken.
The program does not require membership to the church, and they are non-prejudicial on all accounts.
Hope that helps!
