Hello all. My husband and I have purchased a home in Lee’s Summit and will be moving there next week. Most of the homes I looked at had this service included in the HOA fees, the one we purchased however, did not.

It seems the current owners are using Waste Management, so I called them and not only were they really expensive IMO, but if stuff doesn’t fit in the can you have to go buy stickers at Hy Vee? Didn’t seem like they take larger items at all, extra for yard waste, etc...

Anyway, are there any other companies you would recommend? A lot of stuff got packed that I’m going to get rid of so I’m going to have a lot of stuff on the curb the first few weeks.

Yeah, Lee's Summit is a town where homeowners have to contract individually for trash pickup among the licensed vendors.

If you have decent stuff but are just going to trash it, try putting it at the curb and putting an ad on Craig’s list under the “free” category. I’ve had very good luck getting rid of all sorts of stuff that way. The Salvation Army will pick up household goods or you can take them to one of their donation centers. You might check with your new neighbors and see if you can put some of your stuff in their trash if their can isn’t full. I know we only generate 1 bag a week and could easily get a couple more bags in our can.

As far as yard waste being an “extra” - in Missouri it is illegal to put any sort of vegetative matter in a landfill. So your trash hauler has to take it somewhere else. Hence there is usually an extra charge.
