So? I say it routinely too. Didn't know it was a contest.

I'm not saying it's a contest. I'm saying that you regularly ignore the fact that kcmo wants (as I do) people to come visit to see for themselves, and also recommends the suburbs when he feels like it's a good fit.

I don't "ignore" that he says to come and visit to see for themselves. It's never been a topic of discussion. Lots of people recommend that. How else is a person going to know what area is appealing to them if they don't see it for themselves? I say it because people here try to steer posters toward urban KCMO and I think a lot of people, when they see urban KCMO and also see the suburbs, are going to prefer the suburbs. If they don't, that's fine. I just know if I were new and saw urban KC and saw the suburbs, I'd choose the suburbs. But you can't decide that based on what people say an online forum.

And I have rarely if ever seen him recommend the suburbs. He does exactly what he has done in this thread; outline all the reasons the poster should live in urban KCMO.

Jeez luz.......

I really don't get what your problem is. I do recommend the suburbs in some cases, but most of my posts are replying to people that would likely prefer a more urban area.

You are correct, plenty of young and or single people live in the burbs and do just fine. But it's also pretty common knowledge that if you are new to a metro area, it's just easier to meet people, get to know the city etc if you live in the urban core at least for a year or so. This is true for any major city.

And I'm not really sure what you even mean by "seeing the suburbs". Have you not figured out that suburban KC is like suburban every single city in the country? It average suburbia. It's not the best, not the worst, just average, especially for single people. Everybody has been to an average suburb with office parks, strip malls and attractions like top golf.

But some cities have more active and vibrant suburbs. I mean DC has plenty of Overland Park type family oriented suburbs like above, but it also has tons of dense, walkable, transit friendly, vibrant suburbs that KC does not have. I don't think you realize that. KC has some nice family oriented suburbs, but that's it. If you want anything more than that, you have to go into central KCMO. In many large cities, they do actually have suburbs that are very attractive to young or single people. KC not so much unless they are already from the rural midwest and places like Johnson County are "big city" to them.

The Lenexa City Center Development is basically a replication of what Carmel, IN did, but they were much further ahead by about 15 years. The city also has a multi-billion dollar debt to pay off due to the scope/scale of the projects related to the financial side of the ledger.

Bumping this. I'm a 34-year-old male who used to live near KU Med until a few years ago when some family stuff brought me out to the suburbs. I'm looking to find a rental in the city in the next 3-6 months and am hoping that the forum can point me in the right direction. My main criteria are a) With COVID still going on, I don't want to be paying for a place with shared amenities like gyms and pools that aren't safe to use and b) My hard partying days are behind me, so I'm not looking to be in a high-traffic part of Westport or the Plaza, though I'd still like to be in a walkable area.

I went driving around today and saw a lot of for-rent signs north of the Plaza (think 43rd-45th St. between Madison and Jefferson); Does anyone have any insight into that part of town? It also looks like the River Market is developing faster than I can remember, but I couldn't really tell the age range of the people coming and going.

My office is in Corporate Woods, but I'm WFH for the foreseeable future, so commute isn't really a factor in where I choose to live. Would love to hear some suggestions from the board, even if they aren't in the parts of town that I referenced above.

The Southmoreland neighborhood is close to that. I am familiar with it because I have family who lived off Warwick. They could walk or bike to; the Art Institute, The Nelson, The Plaza and Westport. I was a good mix of older people, families and art students.

There’s more single people in the city. If I was in my 30s and single I would live on the plaza. If your work near corporate woods in OP, it will be a 25 minute commute. When I first moved here in my late 20s I lived on the plaza. That’s where I met my wife.

I am new to this techy way of c communicating. I’m a 47-year-old female and have lived in Kansas City for two years and I guess I need to go find some church that is specified to singles over 35 or something because the singles network things called tinder and the fish is just ridiculous there’s nobody on there looking for what I’m looking for it’s all a big sex weirdo thing. somebody told me match.com is a lot better and I haven’t tried it yet but I think I will put out a little money and try that one.
