That is why I am moving away from the KC metro area. I do much better when I am in a smaller town instead of a large metro. The lack of any lakes, forests, or mountains is a fairly big downside for me. The people in general are quite nice, but I have run into some rather unpleasant people as well. I think the KC metro definitely caters to families much more than single people.

Most of my family lives in New Hampshire so that is where I am moving next! I have got the job situation figured out, and will be moving in the next 1-2 months.

New England instantly became my favorite region of the country after vacationing there recently.

As for KC v. Denver, I like KC, which doesn't mean much, since I haven't really been to Denver. I've heard mixed things about it from people I've known that have lived there, though. Kansas City is a pretty good town to live in, I think. One down side, and it's kind of a big one, is that I've found it's a bit hard to get to know people in KC. Could just be me, I guess.

that's an interesting point of view westcoastdude. Fortunately for me, I am notemotionally involved in football so the cheifs vs. bronco thing doesn't play into my decision. I can't imagine being genuinely angry at sports team, but whatever. The peoplein Denver seem very nice, too. But I suspect it is more yuppie type people herein Denver, and while they are nice it doesn't necessarily mean they are neighborlyor down to earth. Even though I do not go to church, I do like to be in an areawhere old churches can be found. I love the idea of walking through an historic neighbhorhood with old churches, listening to the church bells chime on the hour.It seems KC might be a better place to find this type of environment over Denver.I suppose St. Paul, MN is the best example of such a place. I have never thoughtKC had a better economy than Denver. This is news to me. I have never seenKC on any type of list for the best places to find a job, etc. Denver has many times been on such lists. I like the fact that KC is overlooked. It keeps the cost of livinglow. It is probably one of the few examples of a true undiscovered gem in American cities.

There's just something very welcoming to families--a real neighborliness and genuine sensibility that you don't have in over-priced and over-rated Denver.

I've always found the folks in KC to be very open and friendly. Great churches and suburbs. Just a great place.

Denver's fine if you're 20 and you want a few years of skiing and hiking before you grow up.

And when you finally DO decide to grow up (have a family), you move to KC.

Denver's a place to grow up and then leave? I guess that depends on your situation and perception. For us (we're grown up), this is the best place I can think of for us to raise our children. We're a gay couple and we have the best, friendliest, and most accepting neighbors I've ever known. We live in the city of Denver, yet have great schools and tons of kids around for our kids to grow up with. We have barbeques, go out to dinner with our neighbors, help one another, etc. Our neighbors are like family.

I'll agree that KC is a great place for families - I grew up there. I don't think we, as a gay couple with kids, would find a neighborhood with good schools and accepting neighbors like we have here. Maybe parts of Roeland Park/Mission where you have good schools and more liberal people. But if you're an average family, there are plenty of nice areas around the KC metro you'll find.

That's pretty blockbuster news; I know you've been planning on relocating up there for quite awhile! Hopefully you'll continue to moderate the Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska forums--or they might need a new New Hampshire moderator before you know it. Whatever happens, keep us informed on how your move and new place works out, OK?

Sorry, but what the hell is in New Hampshire?

I mean Boston, Philly, NYC, even Hartford. But New Hamshire? Sounds like you want out of the city, not a larger, more vibrant one.

It is true that New Hampshire has no large cities, but the cities they have are quite vibrant. The cities along the I-93 corridor like Nashua, Manchester, and Concord are all doing fairly well. These cities are also fairly close to Boston if one desires the big city. At this point I need less stress, and want to live in a smaller city. I also like the fact that outdoor and recreation activities are abundant in the state, and the variety in the landscapes are amazing. Another positive is the lack of a state income tax and sales tax.
If you visit NH I would recommend taking the drive all the way up along I-93 through Franconia Notch. I would then advise taking a drive along the Kank Highway east of Lincoln. The roads around Lake Winnipesaukee are also scenic as well.
