Blue Springs
I am moving to the Missouri, Kansas area and have no idea where to look. I have searched a few places and found Blue Springs and it looked really nice. I will be working at the GM plant in Fairfax Kansas. Would love to know all about the area from anyone who knows. We will be buying a home there and we have 3 daughters 10, 9, 7. Thanks so much!

The northland (on the north side of Missouri River) would be a better choice. It's closer, and generally a bit nicer part of town. You'd have an easy drive down I-635 into KCK. From Blue Springs, you'd have to go through downtown to get to Fairfax. Also, extreme northeastern Johnson County, Kansas, isn't too bad. Roeland Park, Fairway, Westwood, etc.

I guess the question I'd ask is how much are you wanting to spend. prices can vary greatly, so it would help everyone to know your budget before suggesting places to live.

Platte County up north might be a little on the pricey side, but there are some options there. Clay County would be more affordable. The areas mentioned in Johnson County are pretty affordable. Fairway can be a little pricey, but Roeland Park would easily be within reach. The schools in all those areas are good.

Gladstone is probably one of the better bargains based on your price range. It is in Clay County.

In that price range, Blue Springs will be your best bet. You can get a very nice home in Blue Springs for 175-200. The same home in Platte county would be more like 200-225 and even then you won't find much in Platte, you would probably have to go over to Clay County to get into that price range. Platte is pretty upscale. Clay has plenty of upscale areas too, but it also has a lot of more moderate housing.
Blue Springs is probably the best bang for your buck without having to go to the more rural places like Bonner Springs, Gardner etc. You get all suburban stuff nearby in Independence and Lee's Summit too.
Speaking of Independence. Eastern Indep is actually an even better deal than Blue Springs. I would look around I-70 and Lee's Summit Road. It's a very nice area, even nicer than much of Blue Springs, and housing is even less.

Whats a lakefront house in Lees Summit go for? Here in Michigan, lakefront dumps go for 300000.

I am not sure, but any water body in the KC metro area is a reservior of some type. Homes near the water would obviously be more spendy, but I am not sure about the price range. It would depend on the town. For example, a home near Smithville Reservoir would not be that expensive, especially if you are a few miles further removed from the water.

Lee's Summit has by for the most lake front homes in the metro. There is a difference between a lakefront home in Lakewood or Raintree in Lee's Summit vs Smithville or something like that.
I would guess they run from 350k into the multi millions.
