We are moving to the area and will be fairly close to centerpoint hospital. I was wondering what peoples opinion of the place locally is. I realize that it is very new and replaced 2 older hospitals that were closed and some people are bitter that it was placed so far east compared to the 2 it replaced, but I was more curious as to any good or bad experiences people have had. It is right on 70 and is a level 2 trauma center so I would think it would get a decent amount of car crashes.

It's the new big hospital near Independence Center.

I'm not sure what you are asking. We "tried" to go there once for an emergency for one of my kids and the wait was like 2 hours so we ended up leaving and going to St Mary's in Blue Springs.

Centerpoint is the main hospital for several hundred thousand people now and even though it's a big hospital, it needs to be much larger.

I would probably go there for major surgeries/trama etc, but I would avoid it for more minor stuff and go to another hospital in Blue Springs or Lee’s Summit.

I was just wondering what kind of experiences people have had there since it is close to us and would be convienent to use. As far as a 2 hour wait, that is not too bad compared to some ER's I have seen!

It is owned by HCA, a private FOR PROFIT company owned by the Bill Frist family. I worked for HCA three years. Not a good company to work for.

I work in a nursing home and have had a few residents who were at Centerpoint. I have gotten mixed reviews from them. There are so many hospitals in this area and I don't know that Centerpoint would be my first choice, based on what I have heard.

I'd have to agree on the HCA opinion. I have worked for HCA in the past (ran as fast as I could) and I know several people who work at Centerpoint now and they say it is short staffed, has a high pt ratio and is pretty much the last place they would recommend at this point in the area for care. Miserable nurses are never a good sign, IMHO. The docs I know/work with also say the place is pretty bad.

That said, bith my MIL and my SIL have received ok care there. So there's two sides of the opinion.

I've heard good things about Liberty Hospital and North Kansas City Hospital. More of a drive but good places to get seen. Also, for kids, Childrens Mery is your best bet.

Good luck!

This is really sad considering the "potential" of this very modern hospital and considering it's one of the largest hospitals in the east metro area.

Are the other HCA hospitals this bad such as Lee's Summit Hospital?

I honestly haven't heard anything about Lee's Summit however I have heard nothing positive about any of the other HCA hospitals. I know many nurses that have worked for many of the HCA hospitals in this area and most have ran fast from them. I know more than several that have paid back sign on bonuses as they felt their license would be in jeopardy if they fullfilled their contracts.

Now with that said I am sure there are people/patients out there that have had good experiences. But honestly if I needed to go to hospital I would go to KU, Truman, Saint Lukes (any location) and Children's Mercy for my children and that is it. I really think the teaching hospitals here are great.
