Gladstone, Liberty, Lee's Summit, Platte City... Most KC suburbs are family-oriented and safe. Some are better/nicer than others.

Lenexa is very nice, family oriented, high education level and median income good schools in terms of performance.

I always get on the census data, look at the income levels, the school ratings and education levels of the community.... north of the river can be good too... KC is undergoing alot of changes right now

Default I'm moving to KC too

I have been looking into the areas north of KC...we want to be fairly close to down town (like within 15-20 minutes) but also not too far from the Airport...so I am looking seriously into Parkville...is this where the Park Hill school district is?
I was really keen on NKC but the schools don't sound too great..although I am told by a friend in KC that they are doing some innovative stuff in the NKC district...we are looking for a home in the $150,000-$200,000 price range...any further advice?

Parkville is in the Park Hill district, I believe. Most of that town is fairly upscale, so I don't know how much there is to choose from in that price range. There are plenty of other areas in Platte County that would fit, though.

North of Kansas City is a fast growing location. The schools in Liberty are top notch. We relocated here a few years ago and chose the Liberty location for the schools and the convenience to downtown (about 15 minutes) and to the airport (20 minutes). Get a good agent who knows the area and listens to what you want in a home. We used Royce Ann Kennedy when we relocated, and we couldn’t be happier. You can look at her website at www.royceannkennedy.com. She knows the area and the home builders well. There are homes in both Liberty and KC (liberty schools) in that price range. Don’t be fooled by the address. We have a KC address, but we are in the Liberty school district. Good Luck!

Liberty is pretty good, and they are building a brand new high school. Parkville is probably KC's best suberb in my opinion. In the North Kansas City district, the Staley high school area is fairly new and is a nice suberb.

Park Hill School District covers Parkville, Riverside, areas of KC MO. Maybe some more but that's the big areas (Platte Woods is another one.).

You can find houses in that range in Parkville, but just do a search for the Park Hill School District. From what I have seen, all the areas are good to great. I live about 1 mile from Parkville (a KC MO address) and I have a house on an acre of land and it is 2000+ sq. ft. I got it at the low end of your price range. You will easily find something in your price range. I would do it sooner rather than later as I can only see prices going up from here on out. It is a good area (THE area to be in around KC) for the forseeable future.

Lee's Summit has one of the highest tax levies in the suburban Kansas City area. The school levies for local cities are: Blue Springs R-4 5.3893, Grandview 5.45, Hickman Mills 5.54, Independence 5.0841, Ray-Pec 5.0397, Lee's Summit R-7 5.8116. I don't believe that money is being spent as wisely as it could be.

Liberty just got audited and there was major issues with the money. I wouldn't want to go there in the middle of that mess.
