Moving to KC - Job in Blue Valley School District
Hi, we're moving to Kansas City with a job in the Blue Valley School District. I understand that this is a very expensive area to live in! We're used to much cheaper prices having lived in places like Springfield, Missouri and Topeka, Kansas in recent years where the housing is very affordable. Now we're moving from Minnesota and had fairly cheap rent there as well. Does anyone have any recommendations as to places nearby to live?
We'll probably be looking at renting a 2-3 bedroom townhouse or apartment, but we'd like a place with a newer feel and not something too run down. The problem is we're used to paying a fairly cheap rent amount for this kind of place ($650-$900 max).
Ideally we'd love to be living where it's not too big of a commute to the job, but affordable and we'd love to be somewhere near a lake! (We recently moved from Minnesota so... yeah... we're kinda addicted to the water, though this isn't a necessity just a nice thought.)
Does anyone have any specific apartment or townhouse complexes or companies they recommend renting from? Anyone have any other advice about living in Kansas City? Love to hear it! Thanks in advance...

Minnesota, ten thousand lakes and ten trillion mosquitos!
Non Democratic and non Republican governor and getting ready to elect an independent United States Senator.
Want pricey? Anything on either coast!

I would go with "established" Lenexa. It is centrally located, the neighborhoods are much more established, and Shawnee Mission Park is nearby. I wouldn't suggest Louisburg unless you like more driving and a lot fewer trees.
