What to do in KC metro if you only have a couple of hours? (Kansas City: work)

I may be going to Kansas City tomorrow for work (I live in Denver), but I will only be able to stay for a few hours in the evening before heading back home. Any recommendations on what to do in that time? I want to make the most of my time there, as I've always been somewhat fascinated by the area. Thanks in advance!

Walk around the country club plaza, walk around crown center, walk up to the Liberty Memorial, buy a ticket to the top of the memorial (only a few bucks) and take in the view. Walk around union station, walk around the power and light district.

I would just park someplace and catch a max bus, probably plaza area as parking is free there, buy a day pass on the MAX bus after you walk around the plaza. Take max to liberty memorial/federal reserve stop, then walk to Crown Center and union station from there or take a max, then take max to downtown and walk around the new power and light district and sprint center area. If you have a car, drive over to the Nelson and check that out.

If time is short, just walk around the plaza or westport and have a nice meal (Harry's has the best tapas in westport, but only open at 5pm). The plaza is full of great places to eat, nice little shops and is VERY walkable. Plus, there are dozens of fountains on the Plaza (it is the city of fountains you know!). Is there anything you are particularly interested in so you could get a more specific recommendation? (cuisine, museum, architecture, music, sports, shopping, etc?)

The previous two posts are pretty good suggestions.

The Plaza is a gem, and most Kansas Citians would put that at the top of their list of places to visit, but aside from the beauty of the architecture and fountains, it is just your typical upscale shopping district and some may find it a bit bland.

Many consider it obligatory to get some BBQ while in KC. Personally, I'm an Arthur Bryants fan, but its a bit out of the way, so you may want to hit up the Gates in Midtown near Liberty Memorial (a KC staple), or Fiorella's Jackstack in the Crossroads (if you want sit down BBQ in a nice setting).

Turns out, we didn't get to spend our time there as we planned. We dropped some medical equipment in Overland Park, then crossed the state line into Missouri (got another state checked off the list ), and went to AutoZone (63rd Ave/E of Rockhill) to try and recharge the A/C (we drove from Denver without it), mainly because my girlfriend didn't want to sit in the car again for 9 hours without it. We spent about an hour of our short time at AutoZone.

We left and drove north towards Downtown. It was very impressive.

We ended up accidentally getting on US 169 north, but thankfully got to see the Missouri River and it's bridges.

We turned back around and headed towards Country Club Plaza to go get dinner. By the time we got there, my work had called and asked where I was, and insisted I turn back towards Denver, immediately. So no dinner. I was supposed to be back in Denver by 5AM MST, which would have really been pushing it. I asked them to have someone cover for me, 1) So we could enjoy and stay in KC for awhile; 2) So we could sleep. We ended up not making it back to Denver in time and they ended up having someone cover for me anyway, but by then we were an hour from Denver, so I wish they would have just covered for me in the first place, but I digress.

In conclusion, Kansas City seems like a great place, and I'm really disappointed we didn't get to spend more time there, if I ever get the opportunity to go there again, I will make sure I can spend some time there. It was so green, and there were trees everywhere! It also felt and looked like a real city, something which I now think is a little lacking here in Denver. I can't wait to get back to your wonderful city!
