Liberty info (Kansas City, Independence, Smithville: apartments, rentals, houses)

We are going to be moving to the area in the next couple of weeks and so far we are thinking that Liberty will be the best fit. The schools there have been highly recommended to us.
We are planning a trip out this weekend to check everything out. And hopefully find a place to live. We are looking for someplace to rent until we are sure on the area we want to buy in.
Anybody have any thoughts on this area? Can you recommend some places to look for rentals?

I rented there for 6 months at...I think it was called Jefferson Apartments. And I do NOT recommend it. I was moving from NJ and signed a lease without seeing the place first. It was a little too...boisterous. Having said that, Liberty is a lovely town and I'm sure you will like it. It was nice enough to live in, but I was just there for 6 months, and even though it was nice, my husband and I liked other towns better and bought elsewhere.

I am not sure about renting- we got here a short time ago due to job relocation. We moved here from OH and bought a house in Kansas City zip code but Liberty schools. We love it here. We moved to Liberty specifically for the good schools and proximity to other places important to us.

I like the downtown of Liberty, lots of character with small shops/restaurants. Farmers market on Sat am.

There is plenty of shopping close. 15-20 min to Smithville Lake. 15-20 min from airport and 20-25 to downtown.

Everyone has there own tastes... that said, we really like what Liberty has to offer and it is close enough to other places that it is great for us. GOOD LUCK in your search!

OK...so what would you locals consider a better place to live than Liberty?
We're having trouble making up our minds on which area would be best for us. We are retired young, no kids, and love our home hobbies. We're really into old houses and antique stuff.

I have lived in Liberty for over 5 years and love it. It is a safe and quiet community.
I'v also lived in North Kansas City, and it is also a safe community. Independence - I lived there for about 7 months and hated it... it's very white-trashy... has the nickname of 'meth-denpendence' if that tells ya anything about it!
