I agree about going to Westin. You go to Pirtle Winery, taste their wine, and then sit in their outdoor garden and drink a bottle of wine. O'Malleys is also very cool. There are a lot of homes/buildings on the national historic register, and lots of little shops to visit.

I've heard that Parkville has a nice, historic downtown but have never been there myself.

Thanks for all of your replies. So far we have gone to St. Joseph and visited the Glore Psychiatric Museum which we enjoyed. We definitely will try some of the other suggestions. Thanks

Parkville is cute, but it's barely outside the city. I enjoy Weston and Jamesport.

Lawrence is great for shopping and going out.

A lot of people get into places like Westin or Lawrence.

Boring....
2.5 to 3 hours? I don't want to be riding in your car when you do!

Weston is great. There is an office there that will give you a walking tour map of the town. That way you don't miss anything.

If you will visit a book store, you should find a "Day Trips from Kansas City" book. That probably is not the exact title but such a book does exist - or did at one time. Good luck.
