Good day trip from Kansas City
We moved to Kansas City, MO recently and would like to know good places to go for a day trip. We don't really want to drive more than 2 hours. Does anyone have an suggestions?
Thanks.

I would suggest St. Joseph, MO or Lawrence, KS.

Weston.
Arrow Rock and Booneville, which are towards Columbia, another possibility.

We are a young couple (both in our mid 20s) and just want to visit a place where we can walk around, see attractions, and decent shopping other than KC metro.

Jamesport and Gallatin are Amish settlements NE of KC off of I-35. It is a very interesting day-trip. There is a lady there who runs a carpet and broom store. You can watch her weave the carpet on the loom in the back. There are also lots of shops selling handmade items, food, and baked goods. Definitely a different shopping experience.
Lexington, Missouri is another great day trip. Lots of antebellum homes there and history. Some bed and breakfasts and some great restaurants.
Rocheport, MO (2 hours drive on I-70) has a lovely winery with a restaurant up on cliffs overlooking the Missouri river- beautiful view. It is also the most scenic portion of the Katy Trail. You can walk or bike the Katy Trail. There is a place that rents bikes right near the trail.
Weston, Mo is a wonderful shopping experience- all local shops. The best time to go (in my opinion) is in October during the Weston Irish Festival, though is is difficult to get a seat in O'Malley's pub at that time. O'malley's is an underground pub- giant rooms in limestone caverns- really something to see.
If you plan to do this often, Daytrips From Kansas City, a book by Shifra Stein, is available at Borders or Barnes and Noble. You can also google any of these places for more details.
Happy Exploring

The only place worth a crap that is within 3 hours of KC is St Louis.
You can get to StL in 2.5-3 hours. Lots to do and see. If you get up early, you can easily come back the same day.
A lot of people get into places like Westin or Lawrence.
Boring....

Places are what you make of it.
Lawrence and Westin are cool the first time you go because it is new and their is a good amount of stuff to see and do.

This shows the importance of being specific in your posts-when you say "day trip", I immediately start thinking State Parks, rivers, lakes, wineries, etc. The LAST thing on my mind is shopping! I enjoy visiting cities and all they have to offer, but it is not usually my number one choice. Westin and Amish communities sound neat...to each his own!
