I have lived in the KC area since 1990 and you definitely get all 4 seasons - although fall and spring are shorter and winter/summer longer - most years at least that is. One thing about the weather is it can drastically change very quickly - cold to hot, sudden ice storm - incredible thunderstorms and then change back the next day. It can be a little crazy at times - but for the most part it is quite nice.
I do not care for winter so I don't like Kansas winters. Usually cold and windy - and seems we get at least one good ice storm a year - which I hate. I like summers - but they do get hot in July/August and it does get more humid than one might think . Nice to have a boat and get out on the lake.

I see all the comments on humidity in KC...it's really bad in Tampa, FL...brutally hot and miserable to go outside from basically late May/early June all the way through early to mid Oct. And there is no break in that...it's a solid 4 months or so of hot, humid weather. So, is KC hot and humid for that long, straight?

KC can get quite hot and humid during the summer, but it is usually only continuous for several weeks at a time before thunderstorms move through via a front. Every year is different, but KC does get fairly hot during the summer with moderate to high levels of humidity. You generally have to travel several hours further west before the air becomes drier overall.

Nooo it is humid for several days or a week or two here and there July through August (possible June) - then it will cool off and or storm - the weather usually isn't very consist - lots of variety
Yesterday it was 78, today 75, tomorrow starts out nice 71 - then the storms roll in and the temps drop to 56 on Thursday and go down from there through the weekend to the mid 40's - possibly freezing temps at night - 35 - 29 range.
Last Saturday - not sure on the exact temp but I was slightly hot in shorts, short sleeved shirt and flip flops at my nephew's football game in the afternoon!

I appreciate the weather along I-70 and into the Mid Atlantic. You get a little bit of snow, some mild winter days, etc. West of Kansas is a bit too dry for my sinuses though, I walk around Denver with a kleenex.

The day I moved from there there was one of many ice storms. the summers are hot and humid and winters with brief periods of horrible cold. In short it sucks a lot. Spring is nice... as long as it doesnt snow, fall goes too quick.
I'm staying in Orlando. I live in KC for 32 years. that was more than enough. I served my time.

Its all about personal preference...some people don't think KC gets cold enough to allow snow to build up. For instance, I wouldn't say Kansas City (or St. Louis) really sucks until it starts to not cool off at night and we have those hot mornings...I personally NEED crisp fall and crystal clear winter days to jog my brain...

No, it's not that hot and humid for 4 months straight. It varies, but usually July and August are hot and humid and part of September, although the temperature moderates in September and fall is really nice Usually have Indian summer to the end of October; this year even into November. This year the summer was unsually cool, especially August. We had our air conditioner off quite a bit during August and that is unheard of; it's usually the hottest and most humid month. I was afraid we were going to go right into winter but then in September it warmed up some. By late September the humidity is gone and it's very nice.
I don't like winter so I just survive through December through February. March can bring any kind of weather and it's usually mixed. It can still be cold but there will be some warm days here and there, usually a few days in the 70s by March. April can be cool and wet but also some nice days. By May it is getting warmer, not humid yet, nice. May and June - thunderstorms (which I love) and threat of severe weather. I have lived in Kansas/Missouri all my life and I've been through lots of tornado warnings but I have yet to actually see or be affected by a tornado or know anyone personally who has. July and August - hot and humid. September temperatures moderating and humidity gone by the end of September. September and October - cool mornings but lots of days with temps into the 70s-80s. Indian summer lots of years. November - more gray skies, temperatures dropping, some cold days/brisk winds. The cold air is still new so I don't mind it so much. By the time December is here I'm ready for spring.

After living just outside of KC for 20+ years and now moving to another state, I now notice that KC has a very short spring & fall. As some earlier posters say, it's either 'too' hot or 'too' cold most of the time. Weather is one of the main reasons I decided to leave! I couldn't take the cloudy, gray, dreary, cold winters anymore.
The city and metro area have so much to offer, just not the best weather.
