Also, I have 4 kids that I've raised here and would never think of leaving because my kids also love all the opportunites they have here. Good luck!

Lee's Summit is NOT dangerous, unless you fear soccer-moms! Don't live in the old part. Go South to the Raintree Lake area, and you will be fine. Lots of baby factories there, but lots o money. Funny about the whole KC metro area, though....cheap people! Always want something for nothing, so if you work retail, then God rest your soul. Even the rich ones are cheap!

Also, Lees Summit is on Money magazine's list of the top 100 cities to live in the US, moving in two years from about 80 something on that list to now being at the 44th spot.
I challenge anyone to find a city (in an urban area) with ZERO crime - do your research it doesn't exist.
Lees Summit is a stellar community - bar none - and extremely safe. Children play outside after dark, women jog in the parks at night. AND the best part is Lees Summit is not only safe - it has one of the best school districts in Missouri and the people are friendly! I live in Lees Summit with my three children and I LOVE it! Also Lees Summit is committed to creating a family friendly atmosphere - they recently put a ban on pitbulls and are considering a similar ban on all attack dogs.
When my husband and I first moved here we started in Blue Springs, even though everyone in my family (they grew up in Kansas City) said - go to Lees Summit or don't go. I'm sorry to say - but you can not compare the two at all. Blue Springs is ok, but getting a bit run down, which I think has put a bit of chip on their shoulder. Lees Summit is a little more expensive, but only slightly so. The benefits of the living environment are so worth it - and unlike Blue Springs, every neighborhood in Lees Summit is appreciating and growing. 12 years ago Lees Summit had a population of 66k and now has grown to over 90k. Retailers are DYING to get into Lees Summit.
Now as for your question of apartments since that was the point of your post, there are a few complexes here. The nicest one is AMLI (?) complex near Lees Summit North high school. It has easy access to 291 North - which leads directly to Independence Center (about a 15 minute drive).
Happy hunting! And if you have any doubts visit the area, in a week-end's trip you'll get a good feel for both Blue Springs and Lees Summit.

I agree with you. Lee's Summit is a nice little town. I've had relatives there for many years and they (several generations) love it. Good roads, lovely homes, nice schools, a growing town. See Steve Immer at Keller Williams for real estate needs in the area. SteveImmer@kw.com. He is unaware I am plugging him here, but if anyone is considering moving to the area they might like a reference to someone who has a good reputation.

They do scare me, a little. It's that whole driving-a-giant-SUV-while-distracted-by-screaming-kids-in-the-backseat-while-steering -one-handed-with-a-spilling-latte-in-the-other thing soccer moms have going on that gives me pause.

Giant SUVs are so 1990s However, I am seeing fewer larger SUVs on the road now than compared with 5 years ago. Maybe some people started getting scared when gas went above $3 a gallon?

Cheap People
There are many examples of how people in KC are cheap! The problem is that in Mo. there is NO loyalty to salespeople. These cheap people only care about themselves.....as long as they save money thats all that matters to them. I've seen people do it for as little as $1.00, but yet they are willing to burn $10 more in gas to save a buck! Idiots! Here is a good one: "I missed the sale, can I still get the sale price?" Do you not know what the concept of a sale is??? It is to get customers in during a set time! If you could get the sale price ALL the time, doesn't that then become the regular prices??? Why bother having an announced sale? Here is another: Buy 1 get the 2nd half off(2nd must be equal or lesser in value). Let me give you a quick math lesson you inbreds....The most you can save is 25%! That's what it's designed to do. If you buy 4 items, you should group the 2 most expensive items together, then the other 2! You would not believe how many do not understand this concept.

living in lee's summit
I just moved to Lee's Summit a couple of weeks ago. Our real estate agent, Ronda Marchant, has been awesome. Aside from showing us around town and finding great houses in our price range, she also provides us with interesting info about the town, telling us which schools are best, fun places to go, etc.
I've lived in many states and cities (in NY and CA), and I don't see how anyone could consider Lee's Summit to be dangerous. As some of the other posters said, there's crime in EVERY city, even small ones. Since I've lived in slightly shady areas (in and around Los Angeles) I wouldn't go wandering around any neighborhood at night. However, the people in LS seem really friendly, and as far as safety, as long as you're heads up (which people should be no matter where they live) this seems like a great place to be.
