Default Has anyone relocted to KC from the Dallas area?

If so, can you tell me about the transition? Please provide any comparisons to Dallas or things we should be on the lookout for that are very different than the Dallas area?

We are thinking of moving to the Kansas side, and would like to hear about the schools and nice neighborhoods that would be ideal for a family of 5 with 3 small children.

We moved to Liberty 2 1/2 years ago from Dallas (off Walnut Hill & Webb Chapel in Dallas). I love the rolling hills and the change of season. However, our cost of living went up 30% immediately. We paid 30% more for the same size home. We pay 30% more for groceries. In fact, there is no competition in grocery shopping compared to Dallas. Since we've lived here neither store in Liberty has done double coupons! Coming from Albertsons triple coupons up to a $1, this was a shock. It also took me a little while to get used to the architecture in the houses. We were used to brick ranches or two stories, and here there is very little brick and so many split level homes. Of course, we love having a basement here. We love the schools in Liberty. Then again, we were in DISD, though my kids were in preschool when we left. I'm happy to answer specifics if you have them.

Heh, moving there from Naperville, IL (Chicago suburb) we're just the opposite on housing - we can sell our 400K house here in Naperville, and buy a house for 300K or less that is a much nicer home!

Wow, forgot about Albertsons (we used to live in the Houston area.) Betsy, my wife asks where you do your grocery shopping in Liberty? We saw the humongous super-Walmart, and something called a Hi-Vi? (thats wrong, hopefully you know what we mean!)

Jeff

I do most of my grocery shopping at Super Walmart, then I stop by Hy Vee and Price Chopper to buy what is on ad or to get our "local dairy" milk in glass bottles. They have also just opened an Aldi in Liberty this week, but I haven't been there yet.
