Default Commute to VA Hospital from Blue Springs/Lee's Summit, Help!

Hi,
I planning to relocate from Warrensburg to the Blue Springs area. I'll be working at the VA Hospital in KCMO. I chose Blue Springs because it seems like a nice town, and appears to be an easy to commute to the VA Medical Center.

About how long does it take to get from Blue Springs to downtown KCMO during the morning rush hour? Also, what about highway 40 as an alternate route? I've heard that I-70 really backs up in the morning, and I'm starting to wonder if I shouldn't be looking at other locations, like Lee's Summit.

Appreciate hearing from those who make similar commutes.

The VA Hospital is not all the way Downtown.

But once you get on I-70, you can typically get to the Van Brunt exit in about 15-20 minutes during rush hour. If there is a wreck or traffic is really bad, you can easily add 10-15 more minutes. If there is a major wreck or bad weather, it could take up to an hour.

But for the most part, it's a pretty easy commute, just some normal slow downs between 470 and 435.

Lee's Summit would probably be worse because you would still have to get up to I-70 and 470 can be worse than 70.

I would just try to find house close to I-70 so you don't spend 20 minutes just trying to get to I-70. Blue Springs is growing way far south and if you live out by Colbern or something it could really add time to your commute.

Do you have to be at work at 8am? I live at 470/Douglas in Lee's Summit and my commute starts at 8 or 8:15 and I travel to KCK in 25 minutes, with no wrecks or weather of course. Its about 15 minutes to the Van Brunt exit from my house under normal conditions. I would also look at Raytown or Lee's Summit. An area of KC that would be perfect for you is the Sterling Rd. and I-70 area, to the north or south. That way you can take 40 hwy to work in 5 to 10 minutes.
