Commuting from KC to Lawrence
I'm looking at moving back to the Kansas City area. I've lived in Lawrence before and while I love that town, I'd like to live in Kansas City for the 'city' feel. I really like the Brookside area but that is a LONG commute to Lawrence. I can handle a 30 minute commute but anything longer than that is probably out of the question.
My question is what areas (if any) are similar to Brookside and within 30 minutes of Lawrence? As a young, single person Lawrence is a little small for me which is why I'm looking at KC. Suggestions/advice/etc are much appreciated!

There is nothing like the “city” in Kansas. As you probably know, from State line to about Lawrence, it’s suburbs and or rural. Some people on this forum might recommend NE JoCo, but I personally don’t think that’s city or urban and that sounds like that’s what you are looking for. Plus, the commute from L to NE JoCo is about the same as it is into the city.
I would say either get used to the drive or live in Kansas and a more suburban or rural or small town lifestyle. Lawrence itself is a pretty nice town, but it is small and a bit far.

Do you know if you would prefer to take I-70 or K-10 for your commute?
Brookside is sort of in-between where you could take either. And, yes, it's not the most convenient place for getting to Lawrence.
Living in somewhere in Midtown with easier access to 70 would be a little bit quicker - but it is still going to be over 30 minutes (it usually took me around 45 minutes). You might want to look into the Volker/KU Med/ East Rosedale/ North Westood area as I think that might be the best balance between "city" feel and commute considerations.
You may also want to consider taking the bus from OP to Lawrence. I find that taking public transit makes a long commute much easier.

The closest thing IMO to Brookside on the Kansas side is an area of homes called Westheight it is near the Wyandotte High School area, there is some spectacular Architecture in there , although I have'nt seen it in a while I heard it is unchanged, you won't find many businesses near by.

Yea, that's still a pretty cool area and it won't be near as expensive as Brookside.
