Living in the suburbs, be it Overland Park or Lee's Summit, leaves one with little ability to parallel park. That type of parking just doesn't exist in the 'burbs. How sad to laugh at someone's attempt to park their car! Hopefully, your children were not with you!
Learn to parallel park. My kids will know how becasue they watch me do it and they go intot he city more than once every five years.
This city has THREE giant hunting/fishing stores (two bass pros and a cabella’s,) yet few know what an IKEA is.
Don't flatter yourself, KCMO, many of us are as well traveled as you, and we are well versed in online shopping!
So, that doesn't change the fact that KC people are more into camouflage than brushed nickel.
But most of all, even though the urban core of KCMO IS very nice and offers a lot, most people in suburban KC have nothing good to say about KCMO. That is proven over and over right here on this forum and many others all over the internet. KC has to be the only city where such a high percentage of metro residents are intimidated, scared and freaked out about ANYTHING URBAN. Again, very little civic pride.
The only thing that is proven over and over again on this forum is the ANGER and HATRED you have for all things Johnson County!
Many residents of suburban communities, on both sides of the state line, prefer to focus on their own communities and contribute a great deal to them. You certainly owe these folks an apology for stating that they have "very little civic pride" because they are not interested in urban Kansas City, Missouri.
BS:
Here, from today's KC Star (read the comments). I'm telling you EVERYDAY. The internet just provides proof of something that was mostly hard to prove or document before. Any Missourian will tell you it's the truth.
Famous Dave's reopens in P&L | Dollars & Sense
Normal comments till: "I dont go to P&L it's in MO and there is nothing but crime & scummy people in MO so who cares if they re-opened I dont", then the flamings start.
I honestly think most people in JoCo hate the MO side (or at least have no respect for it), even though most know nothing , absolutely nothing about it, other than the areas around the stadiums, plaza and worlds of fun. I find that ironic since for the most part, they get a free ride the MO side provides the KS side with nearly all their entertainment, culture and identity.
For these reasons, I would move to Minneapolis or Denver if I have a chance.
Please take this in the spirit that it is intended. Perhaps you should move to Minneapolis or Denver. Johnson County and its residents, the state of Kansas and its residents are not going to go away! If you cannot deal with the bi-state situation and the perceived hostility that you experience, by all means, consider a move for your mental and physical health.
I would if I could. KC's bistate issues are what has kept KC from reaching its potential and they will continue to do so. It's no coincidence that KC was a top city in the nation but when JoCo grew and took most, if not, many of the companies and residents to another state without giving anything back, the metro as a whole pretty much has fallen to a "has been" city. KCMO is fighting back sure, but not because of bistate cooperation.
It’s not that KC doesn’t offer similar quality of life for those looking for something non-suburban. It’s just that too many people in KC are just way too suburban/rural minded and have little, if any civic pride and that drives me nuts.
Read the comments at the bottom of this article:
A $250 million renovation makes Kauffman Stadium look like new - Kansas City Star
You can read similar comments on KCStar every day of the week. Every day. Nearly all are started by JoCo morons that have nothing better to do than rip on KCMO/Jackson County/Missouri. And people wonder why so many people on the MO side can't stand JoCo.
And you can read comments like these in EVERY newspaper in the country. Online bashing is the new American pastime! Sad!
This Missourian would have never said:
"every time you go to the Plaza or a museum or downtown or the zoo etc you are going to a landfill? Typical arrogant undignified FREELOADING UNAPPRECIATIVE kansan...you people SUCK
If this Kansan would have never said:
"Quit crying Jackson County, w/o the Royals or Chiefs, Jackson County would be a landfill."
The days of courtesy and respect for others are gone.
|
Again, I see the lack of respect from only the Kansas side. People in MO don't even think about Kansas unless they are insulted by or read an insult by a Kansan, then they fire back, and rightfully so. If people in Kansas had more respect for the MO side, this fighting within our metro would not be near as bad. Kansans refuse to admit there is a problem and they refuse to see why they are viewed the way they are by the MO side.

I have to agree, the KS side holds KCMO back. It's unfortunate. The fact is the MO side doesn't need the KS side, but the KS side needs the MO side.
And just a side note, it is retarded to have famous dave's in P&L district... KC is known for its BBQ, why not bryants or something... not famous dave... wtf

Yea but why ruin a local place to move it into a canned entertainment district? You have Gates, Bryants, Jack Stack etc all within a couple miles of the P&L District. If you move them to the district, the entire experience becomes more “fake” and more like Famous Daves.
The P&L District is what it is and it’s a safe and comfortable place to tourists and suburbanite who can recognize national chains in new buildings.
Those that want real local BBQ are going to ask a local or a taxi driver to show them the way and they always do.
Regardless, there are local places in the district like PeachTree and Bristol and there is no reason for the insults that so many Kansans always have for the MO side.

Yep, time to go! Just pick an American league city so you can watch the Royals! My husband and I are big Royals fans too! Fancy that - We're the dreaded Kansans, the awful Johnson Countians and We Support the Kansas City Royals too! In the meantime, stop reading those comments. They are meant to provoke! I am convinced at least half of all the negative remarks are purposely posted online here at city-data, other boards and especially the newspapers just to get people angry! As I stated in my previous post, our new national past time is internet fighting, bashing, and an "it's all about me" attitude. Just don't bite!

Not to many black people? I am black and I grew up in the Northside of Minneapolis in the 90's from 1987 till 2000 and there are black people. When I moved to kansas city in 2003, I lived on 23rd and Indiana which is the hood. Didn't mean to diss KC but since I have been down here I have been told what not to wear, where and where not to hang at. I see that it's gettin cleaned up. Also, black people do not make every area bad stupid people do! I like the power and light district and the people are nice. Things are cheaper down here and that is also a plus but I have never been in a place that constantly reminded me that I was of another race. HA! guess there is no perfect place to live.

Heee, yet you bemoan the absence of an IKEA? If KC had an IKEA, it would probaby be AT The Legends (for the record, neither IKEA nor the Legends are my idea of important amenities).
