Generally, but not completely, or limited to: south of the Missouri River, west of the eastern leg of I-435, north of the southern leg of 435, and east of Troost or Wornall. East KC, in other words.
Many parts of southeast KC aren't too great, bordering Grandview, Raytown and Longview lake. Parts of Kansas City, Kansas, also. It sounds like a lot, and it is, but when you look at it on a map, it's a relatively small area in the grand scheme of things.
Most all suburbs are nice and safe, or at least not too shabby.

I pretty much agree with that except for the mention of Wornall. There are some nice neighborhoods between Wornall and Troost.
In general, Troost is considered to be the dividing line, with the "bad areas" on the east of Troost. Although I wouldn't automatically rule out anything east of Troost.

There's a saying in China "The Nail That Sticks Out Gets Pounded down" Just try to Blend in, If you can't tell if an area is bad by looking at it, you are in for a panicky, wild ride. even in the worst areas, People have to carry out their business, mailmen, delivery trucks, teachers, etc. Peolpe who look like they are suppose to be there are generally left a lone.
