Ah yes, all 310 of them (less than 2 % of the population) -- that's real diverse.

So now Independence is bad too. So not only are the nearly 500,000 residents of KCMO thugs or crime victims, but the 120,000 residents of Independence are also either thugs or have been a victim of a thug?
I really don’t have that much against Raymore/Belton. It’s a bit neck and if you don’t see that, than you are probably a bit neck as well.
It’s a far outer belt suburban area that is in the middle of changing from a very small town farming and bedroom community to a larger and more built up suburb.
That doesn’t mean that Cass County doesn’t offer a high quality suburban lifestyle for those that are interested in a rural/suburban lifestyle.
KCMO has hundreds of thousands of people that I’m sure have never been shot or even a victim of a serious crime. I would even imagine that most of them like living in KCMO. Unless you sell drugs on the corner of 39th and Prospect, you are probably going to be just as safe in KCMO as you would be in Raymore. I have lived in KCMO for over 3 decades, mostly in areas that many suburbanites wouldn’t drive into. I have never had a problem.

So, before anyone goes and gets their panties all in a bunch, That is indeed what the question was to begin with on this forum... "Where are the suburbs..." So, KCMO.... we will agree to disagree, while it is true that kcmo is pleasent and safe for SOME people in SOME neighborhoods, it to me seems safer to move to a neighborhood in a city with ALOT of those safe neighborhoods...Right? Hence my suggestion to the original question which alot of you have seemed to forget.
But for the record on Independence... I think we all know that it is in fact the METHANPHETAMINE capital of the U.S. Ask any pokey pusher where he gets his **** from and he'll tell you. Pick that one apart how you please but I'll be damned if I ever live there or anywhere else for that matter that may endanger my own or my family's safety. So my Suggestion stated that and nothing else, my opinions are my own but facts are facts. Unfortunately section 8 generally brings in the wrong type of crowd and a majority of kcmo is section 8. (not saying it's always bad) But for a majority of neighborhood this does set off alot of unexpected occurances. Now.... obviously alot of people just get on here to bicker about retarded **** so i'm done.

dd,
I just will never get the ignorance.
The Northland area alone is many times the size of Raymore and offers all kinds of suburban housing options in great areas in all price ranges.
The west side of KCMO from downtown all the way to Martin City is also ok and is also many many times the size of Raymore.
There are parts of KCMO that are not great, parts of KCMO that are ghetto and parts of KCMO like midtown that are just intimidating and a bit too urban (and with that comes higher crime stats) than many suburbanites can’t deal with (or wouldn’t with kids, like myself). Regardless, to say the entire city is unsafe is not only not true, it's a flat out lie and really unfair to those on a forum like this where people are trying to get "good" info on the area.
As far as Independence.
The whole meth thing is so freaking old, Seriously.
First off, the only reason the city got that title was due to the Jackson County drug tax funding a very high amount of drug house busts in the city to clean up problem that is a fraction of what it was. Indepdence is a large city and even though it does have some run down areas that may or may no have “meth” problems, the southeast side of the city is larger and more built up and more upscale than Raymore.
I'm quite shocked that you would know anybody that would know where to get meth. I get around this city and I don't know a single person that knows where to get meth. I’m not sure I know anybody that knows what the hell meth is. I don’t. I shop and dine in Indep on nearly a daily basis around the Center. Never been offered meth.
I do know that Independence has some very nice areas and I do know for a fact that a lot of people drive clear from Cass County to shop, dine and see movies in Independence on a regular basis.
Enough with this. I get it. Cass County is the only safe place in metro KC. Now we have Cass and Johnson covered, where is the Lee's Summit and Northland soccer moms? We need more people to post how safe and secure "their" area is compared to the rest of the city they know nothing about...

So I think that you dropped your own hat on that one.

And your chances of getting killed in KC are??? LOL
I'm sorry, did I just say ignorant? I should add a coward also.
The city is safe, it has its dangerous areas as any city does, but that doesn't mean its crazy unsafe. I guess you need to tell the people along ward parkway to get out of their million dollar houses cuz they are in the ghetto. Or the houses in the valentine neighborhood and hyde park right? Do you not even realize that NORTH of the river, much of that is also KANSAS CITY, and is very nice. Look at those 300k+ condos and all the great apartments downtown, must be sooooo ghetto there right?
Leading cause of death in KC is homicide? I'd love to see your statistics.
Crime in KC has been dropping almost every year since the 90s, in the last few years it has started to rise, as has almost every other large city when crime and violence is more common in a recession, and we are in the worst since the great depression. So the better question is HAVE YOU watched crime statistics in KC for the last 10 years??
Most of KCs homicides are gang related and are gang on gang violence. That means unless your running around certain areas throwin gang signs talkn bout how u gonna smoke some crips or whatever, your not likely to get killed LOL.

I would say North of the River (Liberty, Kearney, Smithville) or Overland Park, Kansas or even Olathe, Kansas. That's about it! There rest is crap. I hate it here and have been here 5 yrs, can't want to leave. Crime is through the rough in the city and it's dull and boring here. Dead end and drab.

North of the river also includes nice areas that are KANSAS CITY, and of course North Kansas City. All of the areas have here small crap areas too of course...
I can't wait for you to leave either! KC would be better without all the haters...

IN FACT... most people drive new vehicles here, most either luxury or sedan. Oh, and that includes the black people that do live here. So I guess you are definetly from Independence...

I know of a few neighborhoods in Belton with the trucks with big ol' tires.. in every other driveway.. Cass is 'neck for sure, but so is a lot of outer suburbs around here..... but anyway..........
I live in Independence. I'm not infatuated with it, nor am I delusional, but it's a nice town for the most part. The south side more so than the north. I'll take Independence over many suburbs, because it has a ton of retail which makes it a very convenient place to live. It has a lot of character, and boatloads of history.
Not too far from downtown or the stadiums... it's all good. I like it. People here aren't too snotty and full of themselves. Some of them are weird, but that only makes life more interesting.
The meth argument is so ten years ago. If you want to see a "meth capital", go to rural Arkansas.
People who don't like Independence either live in the shady northern parts, are too yuppie for their own good, or most likely, know absolutely nothing about it. I've been here for 4+ years, with no problems. Quite, safe neighborhood. Affordable. The only place in JoCo I'd move away from Independence to would be Roeland Park, Fairway, or maybe a more affordable section of Prairie Village.. ONLY if I worked in Kansas. You can keep the rest. The Northland, on the other hand, I like a lot. Gladstone especially, and those little villages along North Oak Trafficway.

My goodness, what nonsense.
There are some great neighborhoods in Gladstone, in KC and the "oak" cities around Gladstone (some really neat ones over west of N. Oak), and of course most of Platte County is really great (Parkville, Riverside, KCMO, all the way up to Platte City and points inbetween). North Kansas City is a lovely little city as well. That 152 corridor has some great higher-end homes and neighborhoods that at one point, when we were looking to move back to the area, was very attractive to us (the new Staley high school area).
Before I moved away my house was in the neighborhood at 35 and Cheauteau Trafficway (near Penguin Park) and we really liked it there (Lakewood Elementary is a really wonderful little school, too).
IMHO, the only part of Clay County I'd avoid long-term is around Claycomo and immediately west and south of it (around Worlds of Fun and North Brighton south of I-35 to 210 - and I used to live in that area, so I know it well), but the rest of it has lots of great homes, neighborhoods, and people, lots of little things going on all the time.
And that's just NORTH of the river! I only lived south of the river from 1991-1995 (in Westport - which I also really loved living in and still have friends near Roanoke Park), so I can't speak to those places well enough, but I know there are some great places in KCMO and in the burb cities there too, on both sides of the state line.
