Exclamation Homeowner

I own a home in Lafayette County and want my the other people living in my home to move. They have lived there for over a year, there is no written agreement, and they have stopped helping with the house payment. How can I get them to move?

I'd imagine if you haven't been able to talk to them and get them out, you may have to start eviction proceedings. I don't know if you claim the income from the property on your taxes of if that will open up a can of worms if you haven't.

If you no longer want them there and they aren't paying you will have to start making sure everything is in writing so you have proof of any communication or demand for rent. Best bet is probably to give them an oral notice to vacate if you know them well and then go from there. I don't know about Missouri but where I am you can get a packet at the court house with the paperwork and it basicly gives you the steps necessary to evict. It isn't fun. I helped my mother evict a nonpaying tenant and they sucked out every last day they could and we had to go to court.

Thank you misplaced1 for your comment. My 7 year old daughter and I live in the house as well as the couple and their children. I don't know if this makes a difference in the eyes of the law or not. I will be starting eviction process ASAP. Again thank you for your suggestions.

Oh boy that might be an uncomfortable situation for you having them in the same house, I'm so sorry. What have they said about non payment of rent and if you have brought up the possibility of them moving out? Do you have any cancelled checks or money order reciepts or bank statements that show regular deposits from them for the previous months if you should need something to show they had been paying any certain amount?
