Default Albuquerque to KC

Hello!
My husband and I will be moving from Albuquerque to KC this summer, and we are currently researching neighborhoods. I must say it's a little overwhelming. We are in our early 30s, no kids, 1 dog, and would prefer an urban neighborhood close to work, shopping and dining. My husband will be attending KCUMB. I am a secondary Spanish teacher with seven years of experience teaching in an urban school with a high immigrant population. I would prefer to continue teaching at a school with similar demographics. Any ideas on neighborhoods or schools with a high Latino population would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jesusita

I would try to stick to the Old Northeast area or the Midtown area. Both areas will be very close to the Hispanic areas of the city. Many schools in urban KCMO have high levels of Hispanics, mostly in the westside and northeast.

You could easily find something in the Midtown. Midtown is basically south of Crown Center, east of State Line and north of the Plaza. It's a huge area that will have every type of urban housing and price range you can imagine.

Old Northeast is smaller, but still a large area. That area doesn't offer near the gentrificated areas that Midtown does, but if you enjoy a diverse, yet a slightly more gritty urban area with authentic ethnic restaurants etc Northeast really is a great area.

Have you had a chance to explore KC yet?

Thanks KCMO. Unfortunately, I haven't been to KC in over 10 years. My husband was there recently for his interview. Since we're not too familiar with the area, and not sure how long we'll be in town we are planning on renting. I like what I'm hearing about the Pendelton Heights neighborhood, but I'm not sure what the rental prospects are like. We will likely be making a trip in late April/early May to explore the area further. Thanks again.

Great area. I think you should find a nice rental in that area, especially if it's a single family home. Just try to visit the area.

Here is a thread on a local KC forum about Pendelton Heights. It might help you and you might join that forum to get more detailed info from people that live in that area.

Pendleton Heights rocks!

I'm not quite sure what you expect in KC though. It's quite a bit larger than Albuquerque as you probably know.
