That's something I've considered over the years. Guess the plusses never outweighed the negatives.
It has nothing to do with whether or not KC has neighborhoods I find appealing; it does. Hyde Park, Valentine, Volker, all look great. But I am antisocial enough that having someone that close to me would bug the living hell out of me. I don't want to live close enough that, to shake the neighbor's hand, all we have to do is open our windows and reach out. Valentine is not like that, but very few people, myself included, can afford to live there.
Maybe the way to fix the metro area funding problems would be for one state or the other to cede their part of KC to the other state. As it is, it's a funding and management disaster. Whoever gets taxed for any kind of a public venue such as the stadiums, feels they are subsidizing all the others who use it. I pity the Jackson county taxpayers as they have to foot the lion's share of these things that are used by all, especially the stadiums. From my point of view, those stadiums could be bulldozed and the teams bid a fond farewell for all that I care about them. Others will see it differently, to be sure, but in my travels I have yet to find a town which had a pro sports franchise that I found more appealing than a college town. That is just me. I have no longing to paint myself and sit half-naked in the cold; others might.
