This is kinda sad...
KC Council makes deep cuts, approves $1.3 billion budget - Kansas City Star
The fountains
I don't see why they wouldn't approve raised fees on some golf courses...
You know, I know this would never happen... and some people would probably freak out. I myself have expressed i'm not a fan of income taxes, i'd rather have taxes collected by higher sales taxes or other methods.... but if of the 2 million people in the KC metro, say we have 300k working in Kansas City (sounds reasonable i'd think) and each person had just $1 dollar removed from there check per week. 52 weeks a year, that's only $52 bucks, nothing anyone could cry over right? That turns out to be $15,600,000 a year.. which would help a lot. Keeping the fountains running only cost 160k.
Maybe they shouldn't impose this on people, but if they gave an opt-in where people could choose, i'd certainly do it to help out... say only 20% of people chose to do it... that still is $3,120,000... which would help a lot to... hell that could pay for the fountains and 74 cops salaries...

That is crazy.
Not the fountains!!
I remember thinking how beautiful they are.
My girlfriend and I are planning a trip to KC this summer and I was just thinking how beautiful the fountains will be.
I hope they find some way to keep the fountains running. ::crosses fingers::

I really feel like the choice to not run the fountains is a mistake.

It's a major mistake, and the cost to run them is not significant.. I don't understand it.

Honestly, I'm no finance person, but it just seems to me that you don't opt to forego displaying one of your city's most visibly distinguishing aesthetic features if there's any possible way to afford it.

HOORAY!!!! This made my otherwise crappy day (CV joint went out on my car and my tax paperwork appears to have gotten lost in my recent move). But if the fountains will flow in KC, at least there's that.

I thought most of the maintenance and expenses for the fountains was privately funded. Is this not the case?
In any event, I'm glad the fountains will continue to run, it would be a huge mistake on the city's part to shut them down.

I'm already involuntarily giving KCMO 1% of my earnings and have no say in how it's spent.
I'll pass.
