Looking for a place to live near Saint Joseph
Hi,
I am considering a job in Saint Joseph and need some recommendations on places to live. I am used to 45 minute drives to work, so I would say anything around 30 minute drive is acceptable for me. I am married and we have a kid, so we are looking for a nice city with a good school system and low crime.
Any recommendations?
Thanks for your help.

St. Joseph itself has some nice areas. Don't know much about the schools. Northwestern parts of the Kansas City metro is less than 30 minutes away. The school districts in that part of KC are very good.
Maryville is a little college town to the north that I've also heard good things about.

Thanks for the info northbound74. I checked Maryville, but it seems a bit far from Saint Joseph (50 minute drive). Which cities in the northwestern part of Kansas City metro should I look? We would prefer to live near Kansas City (more things to do during weekends).

Platte City and Smithville are both outer suburbs. They also have a small-town feel, if that's what you are looking for. Kansas City itself stretches out to the airport, and that's one of the better parts of town.

Hey, I live in Maysville, MO and I work in Lawson. Cameron would be a good option and so would Gower and Plattsburg. I know all the areas well. Savannah would be good too!

I absolutely love Weston. Small town feel, great historic downtown, and if you work on the south side of St. Jo, it's under 30 miles and just off I-29. Downtown KC is only 25 miles away.
Atchison, Kansas is only 20 minutes away and also has a nice small town feel.

If you want to be real close to Kansas City then look on the I-29 area between 64th Street up to Tiffany Springs. I-29 and 64th st. is about 10 minutes from Downtown KC and about 40 minutes or so from St. Joseph.
It just depends would you rather drive every day to work a longer distance or would you rather drive the longer distance the couple times you do stuff in KC a week.
Platte City is probably a pretty good place between your work and the city though. In my opinion it is a pretty nice area also. Platte City would probably make it a 20 min. drive to downtown and a 25 min drive to St. Joseph. Somewhere close to that. It is immediately off I-29 also so it's very quick access to the Interstate you would need for both places.

You might think about Savannah, a small town just north of St Joe on 29; a little farther north is the very small town of Fillmore. Both are nice settings but close to the interstate and quick commutes!
