I would look in Parkville in Riverside, it is nice up there it will be less than a 10 minute drive to work. I live in the 64118 area code and pass Fairfax on my way to work and it takes about 5 minutes to get to that point.

My wife who has been laid off from the Corvette plant in Bowling Green, Ky for 10 mos now just recieved her offer to go to Fairfax Plant. Have to be there by November 2nd so only have 3 weeks to get this planned out. I will be staying here until school is out but would love some advice on where to find a apartment so we could get a jump on getting her set up. That sure didn't give us long to think this over.... Any advice will help.
Thanks,
Chris

I would just look into the nicer apartment complexes in the Northland along I-29 and in Johnson County along I-435.

We're in a similar situation. My husbands plant in Spring Hill Tennessee is slated to go idle at the end of November and he just got a transfer to KC too. He just started his new job this past Monday.

Currently we're living in temporary housing, but I won't recommend it, so I'm afraid I can't be of help to you in this regard. Where we're living is very marginal at best.

But...welcome to Kansas City!

Stay out of Kansas City, MO and give yourself a 1% pay raise. KCMO has a 1% earnings tax applied to wages earned by KCMO residents or anybody who works in KCMO regardless of residence.

You might consider the Johnson County, Kansas area. The Shawnee Mission public schools are award winning schools and the Johnson County Community College is #1 or #2 in the nation. Lots of parks and walking paths here. I live in Shawnee which provides two different highways going north to the KCK area. Riverside has a small town feel and is sheltered from city noises by the hills surrounding it but is close to "the city". There is lots of growth West and South of Johnson County. You might also try the Basehor area if you want country close by. Best of luck!

I would also suggest looking at apartments/ townhomes in the northland in Park Hill Schools if you are going to sign at 12 month lease and your children will go to school here in the fall. You will pay probably pay less in rent in the northland rather than Johnson County. Once you are here you can choose where you would like to live based on experiencing the city. But your wife will surely feel comfortable and safe in the Northland in a newer apartment complex.
